As I read posts placed on here I see alot of people saying the power the ST puts out in 1st & 2nd gears is not very good.

I must totally disagree with these comments I admit the best gear is 3rd but if I slam it down in second I get wheel spin 1st is a bit short but again plenty for me.

Examples now the magnificent ST is run in:

1. At the lights just before the big roundabout leading onto the M55 a VW Golf GTI infront of me he slamms it when the lights hit green so i have a play, fly past him in 2nd gear going around the roundabout.

2. The normal silly saxo,306 and novas etc totaly blow these idiots away with their huge alloys and rear spoilers etc.

3. Scooby my mates got one he flew past me lol

the moral of the story if you want true power go buy a evo, scooby etc. my personal opinion is the ST has plenty of power, oh and how many cars have we had where people stop and watch you drive past the ST definately has the look it is so nice when you catch people having a sneaky look you know they are thinkiing wow nice car. sore fingers now with all that typing lol.

hope i got my point accross

Your right the ST is a great car and fast considering it's price and the class it's in. I do wish there was a litte bit more power at lower revs, since ST drivers are likley to be 'challenged' by some chavs in the car you mentioned in point 2, but it has more than enough to see these off. No one's really expecting it be up there with Evos or Imprezas though, these cars are double the price for a start!

I think Ford have missed a trick by not getting another 20 or so bhp out of it though.

I know what you mean about passing motorists and pedestrians taking a longer look at the ST too, i've only had mine since Saturday and i've already noticed people doing this.

Sounds like you need to drop it into 4th when overtaking?

Totally agree with you Dazz!! If you want a car with raw power then the ST is not what your looking! Get a Scooby or Evo and enjoy the speed because they are amazing machines!
When I got my ST I wasnt expecting it to pin me back like a civic typeR at 7000revs, infact I was prepared for it to be abit dissapointing after 6 months of reading very mixed reviews!
I actually find that when you get the gear change and revs right the car is pretty quick with a perfect balace of speed and handling! Its no where near the hottest hatch about, but for £13000 and insurance group 13 I dont think you can get a better alround car! If its raw pace you want from a hot hatch then you buy the clio and love it for about a couple of months until the thing falls apart!
I see the ST for me as a 'my first' hot hatch, the perfect car to learn how to drive a small powerful motor before you take the step up to a 200bhp hatch back!

My mum told me about how slow her mini cooper was!
It turned out she was overtaking in 5th gear at 30mph!

im talking about dual carridgeway speeds though - although it is getting better since my dad took it out - 110 mph he was doing. quite scary. (on private roads of course officer)

What speed are you at when in 5th, when overtaking i always drop a gear, for that quick burst of power, on single lane roads especially. I've found the ST to be good at overtaking, the other day i over took a C70 on an A-road, when i was passing over to the other side of the road, the coast looked clear, but there a slight dip in the road and when i was already into the manoeuvre a car suddenly appeared coming the other way. I s**t myself and thought i was in for a close call, but i completed the overtake with ease without it being a close call at all.

Really!!!! I find the ST very responsive in 5th gear at 70mph!
Sounds like your dad (or you) need to give it a good run or get it checked out!

Was down your way at the weekend fordie by the time i got there ST looked like you could play dot to dot on the front with all the splatted flies, lovely part of the world you live in.

I used the private part of the M6 got to 115mph then I bottled it.

AT least they didn't do what a volvo did to me, driving along at 40 then go to overtake and they put there foot to the floor, was quite a quick 1 btw so i passed him at ***mph then slamed my brakes on at the next turn and drove down the road slowly to *&^%him off.

Oh the ST is still very responsive in 5th when overtaking but I just love the noise it makes when I drop it into 4th and boot it

I've got 120mph out of mine so far (also on private ground of course!) and i could tell it had more to give, it wasn't that sacrey as it was pretty sturdy and not shakey at all like in some cars going that fast.
