I picked up my new ST2 Wed afternoon and going to work Thursday morning the engine went onto 3 cyl and had smoke coming out of the exhausts, was towed to the garage and was told a piston in cyl 3 had cracked, anyone else had a similar problem?
Waiting to hear if i get a new engine or new car now.

Would't say its 'bad' Ford build quality at all it's just bad luck. Loads of guys over on fiestastoc have had them a month or so now and nothing out of the ordinary, apart from the brake caliper check has happened.

How have you been driving it for those first 120 miles mate?

My hand book said I had to drive my carefully for the first 1000 miles to run the engine and turbo in, then you can give it some
Only joking just bad luck!

There won't be a recall until it starts happening to many more ST's. It's only happened to one (that we know of), so isn't a widespread issue at all. Microscopic weaknesses in the manufacturing process won't show themselves until it's on the road and being used. Fortunately it happened after 120 miles and well in warranty, so it won't cost a penny to resolve and will have a courtesy car while the car or engine is replaced

I remember visiting the Seat factory in Barcelona a few years back and cars that had only just come off of the production line had issues which had to be resolved before they were shipped out to customers.

I saw this at the Audi factory in Neckarsulm Germany, it was amazing how many A8L`s wouldnt start or had computer problems!
