Hi all I recently bought some new wheels for the (big unavailing soon) but they are 16" not the standard 17". I'm a little worried about the extra mileage. Worked out that every 10 miles I do the clock adds 12 and as I do about a 1000 miles a month that an extra 200 each month! The car has very low mileage n I wanna keep it that way but at this rate it won't last long?

My question is has anyone ever heard of re calibrating the speedo to make speedo actuate to the new sized wheels? I know all speedos are off but not as much as changing the size of the wheels.

I found this video online but I think that's for an aftermarket speedo? I'm going to ring ford tomorrow to see what they say but just thought I would ask you lovely people so see if anyone knows any way to sort it.

Thanksssssss

You can do it with Vauxhalls using Opcom or Tech2; you hook it up and simply tell the ECU what size wheels you have fitted. So you must be able to do it with Fords.
Cost you about £65 at a Ford dealer, unless you can find someone with the equipment to do it for you.
Not much help really is it.

I wouldnt bother coop, speedo will read your going faster than you are by about 2mph if that. So youll be doing 28 in a 30 zone.

speed isnt really an issue for u, i get what your saying about mileage tho. Would be worth getting it done if you want to protect genuine mileage

You'll be surprised - the speedo and mileometer are out even with standard sized wheels probably to more of an extent than it is at the moment. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If the car is doing 1000 miles a month, an extra couple of hundred won't matter to a potential buyer in the future.

rang ford, its going to cost £70 plus VAT

Think im going to put the standard one back on for a bit and get them refurbish and speedo sorted at a later date. plus if i do it and have standard wheels on i put less miles on the clock :P

You match it with the correct sized tyre profile.

1 inch is 25mm, you can make up the profile with a 205/50r16 which is + 20mm raise on tyre each side but - 25mm loss over the rim. 205/55r16 is 30mm taller each side - 25mm for rim again.
432mm 17 inch rim + 82mm x2 for 205/40r17 = 596mm
406mm 16 inch rim + 102.5mm x2 for 205/50r16 = 611mm
406mm 16 inch rim + 92.25mm x2 for 205/45r16 = 590mm
Hope that helps, will be different with different width tyres as the profile is percentage of the tyre width.

its nothing to do with wheel size, you need the tyres to be as close in diameter to what your replacing.
what size is the tyres on the 16's?

Overall height mate, not including the tread depth. I do like a good bit of maths from time to time lol
