On the look out for some coilovers and I was wondering what people's thoughts, recommendations and experiences are. I'm wanting them for day to day driving as well as the occasional track day. I've heard good things about AP and would consider buying second hand if the condition and price was right as I'm on a bit of a budget but could stretch that if it was worthwhile.

Im on bilstein. Got them secondhand as well withiut issue. They are a hard ride but not ridiculous for day to day. Comes to life when you throw it into a corner, grips the whole time

I was offered some Vmaxx one's at a good price but turned them done as they had mixed reviews and aren't a brand I know much about or come recommended. Struggling to find any AP's or better for sale second hand anywhere.

They really bad then? Seems I made the right choice. Could really do with a group buy or something.

Is damping important? From what I know AP's just have height adjusting and not damping.

If you do long journeys, like me, I'd avoid them.
Although they're fine for day to day driving, the hard ride really starts to get to you after 50 miles. By 100 miles you want to pull over and take the damn things off.

That coilovers in general or just one brand in particular?

the damping isnt important really, i love having the damping as on soft its almost softer than standard, so long journeys are great

I used AP's on mine, but I'd imagine it's the same with them all.

Nothing wrong what so ever with v-maxx. I had them on my car for a while before I got a set of AP's for £50. I was intrigued to see if there'd be much difference, so I swapped them over. The AP's are only slightly better in my opinion. In hindsight, I wouldn't change them over if I had the option again.

Still on the lookout. Been offered some GAZ GHA's but with the postage costs they come in at over £400 which is a bit out of my budget for second hand coilovers. They will be sold fully serviced though so might see if I can get a cheaper price sorted.

The GAZ ones are for a mk6 but will coilovers for a mk5 Fiesta fit?

I'm in the same boat as you mate looking for some coilovers I've always had AP in mind but if possible id like it not to be rock hard.... So maybe some damping adjustability would be nice

Searching through old threads like this...
Eibachs are now £180 and for not much more you can get coilovers. I'm never going to drop them silly low (40mm at the most) but the adjustablity would be nice.
Has anyone heard about the cheaper brands of coilver? (Vmaxx, performance 3000, pro sport, FK AK. etc etc)

Not sure about those brands. Koni do some for £300...
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performanc...rs-rear-25-30mm

Also AP for about £500 which ain't bad...
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performanc...rs-rear-35-65mm

Both links are fixed damping rate
I think I'll go to coilovers at some point in the future.

Are AP's worth the extra? Probably the "safest" to go for being the most well known.
Trying to save like made to get them but a holiday to Ireland and the Snap On man keep getting in the way of it!

How did you get on?

The Gaz ones you linked to seem pretty good - I think £500 is the price without vat so £600 but still decent, I'm tempted.

So many options

Yeah did alright with the apex springs. Had too do a little modifying of tools to get them on but all good.

Happy with them? I thought it made a huge difference when they first went on.
Don't know about the back being lower, this is what mine looked like right after I fitted them...

The back definitely seems lower. I'll try get a picture today. Huge difference too the handling though! My tester corner is the 270degree motorway sliproad, the springs added 7-10mph round it! hahaha!
