A pretty interesting article on piston heads. I personally think its a great idea being able to do this again. It would breath life back in to communities and being people together.

I do hope people can setup their cars to sustain pothole smashes

I've filled out a document and emailed it back, I've always wanted this to happen.

Hopefully they'll do it on the one road where a pothole doesn't exist...

Hmmm... I think I'll be sending off an email in support. grin

There's 11 questions to respond to, but apparently questions 1-5 are the most important ones. I've quoted them below so people can view the info in one place. If you are going to respond there are some answers you can copy and paste into your email on page 4 here: http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/newsletter/ClosedRoads.pdf

Respond by email to: msc@culture.gsi.gov.uk (by 5:00pm, 10th April 2014)

Quote:
Open consultation: Proposal to Authorise Motor Sport Events on Public Roads (link)

This document seeks views on a proposal to permit motor sports events, including stage rallies, hill climbs and trials of speed, on public roads in certain circumstances.

Consultation Questions
(link, see pg 23) (it's a Word docx file)
You are invited to consider the following questions when responding to the consultation:

Overall Proposal
1. Do you agree with the proposal to give local authorities the powers to allow motor sport events on public roads, subject to the local consultation? If you disagree please give reasons.
Road Closures
2. Do you agree that local authorities should be able to close roads for motor sport events? If you disagree please give reasons.
Suspension of Speed limit
3. Do you agree that local authorities should have the power under certain circumstances to suspend the speed limit and applicable road traffic regulations? If there are any traffic regulations you would prefer not to see suspended, please give reasons.
Event Safety
4. Do you agree that the Motor Sports Association and the Auto Cycle Union should be the “Authorising Authority” for any motor sport events on public roads?
5. Do you agree that the Sports Ground Safety Authority could provide valuable expertise and guidance to ensure motor sport events on roads can be delivered safely?

My local club has already considered closing a road to do autotests as they're struggling to find venues on private land.

Apparently it would have cost £600 to close a road ?? but they decided it was too much. It would have been about £30 extra on the entry fee which actually isn't too bad, as only a small bit of road would be needed for autotest.

Not sure how locals will react to this kind of thing though, I can't imagine everyone would be happy about having a road closed so some old Micras can drive around cones doing handbrake turns for a day lol
Same for hillclimbs, sprints and rallies too I imagine, as people aren't used to it.
