Hey guys and gals! First post here happy the question is;

Ive got a 57 plate zetec s but what parts do i need to convert my engine into the st engine?

the list i can think of is; engine, gearbox, loom, ecu, keys, transponder...but i cant think of anythig else?

Ive owned the car for nearly 5 years now and it holds alot of sentimental value, as my grandad gave me the money to buy it (paying him back till the day he passed away) and i cant bring myself to "just buy an st". so any help would be extremly greatfull.

thankyou! Do i need all the coolant hoses? I phoned up o-c motorsport an he said something about the fueling is totally diffrent, but that was after be said he was too busy to help me!.

Would the engine bay loom connect to the loom inside the car?

Id like rear discs but thru my experience therecrap unless i go with the focus upgrade. Plus i wanna keep it sleeper style lol

Thats the easy option. Please read above. I am not getting rid of the car as it holds alot of sentimental value.

I understand that, the last person with a ZS that didnt just want to buy an ST on here, had the conversion done and the car was ruined. So ended up buying an ST.

I understand the sentimental value but with such a risk as an engine swap that can go wrong, I would still buy an ST over risking ruining the car that means so much.
It will be hard to part with it of course but by doing this you can also remember your grandad as the person that helped you to move onto this next step, by helping you buy the next car on the ladder. In that way every car you buy can always help you remember your grandad as long as you remember where the original starting point was.

you do speak sense happy. Ive got a fair few years in the trade and got friends who run thier own garages. So im lucky enough to have enough people around to help when im stuck.

id do all the work myself to my standard which is pretty high. But i totally understand the complications swapping/converting an engine and if i gotta get a daily an have this as a long term project..then so be it snigger

if you want more power why not do something else instead of an ST engine, a focus rs engine or a mk2 rs engine to be really different, or maybe a 2.3 turbo mazda engine

insurance wouldn't be much more as declaring a different engine to the insurance will make it more than an st anyway i would think

On lad has fitted a focus ST engine, it was the tightest fit i've ever seen but its possible.

I'd say go ahead with it if it means that much to you, but go with caution in the way that it might not be straight forward. One lad on here ended up scraping his car off because the car was that fuckedup after the conversion, he went and bought an st500.

If you fancy an engine swap and have the expertise around you then go for something bigger than the 2.0 happy

Would be nice to run a mk1 rs engine but there like rocking horse **** and i dont want to spend that much on an engine on its own. Theres a few for around the 1500 mark. Plus ive always wanted an st an you can get parts fairly easy. The rs route is avit more tricky lol

Ive got the mechanical knowledge. Just get worried where i got to cut into things cus i worry about if its strong enough etc. hense why i want to go down the st route as its a fairly "straight" swap..i use that term loosely.

You could always go the mountune route and get there 2.5duratec race engine that fits anywhere where there is a 2ltr but it's an expensive engine

Mountune also mention a Duratec Turbo on their race engines page.
http://www.mountune.com/index.php/services/mountune-racing/mr-race-engines

So I guess they could fit a turbo to your Zetec S if you wanted to go down that route.
