95 Ron for the fez most are using that but I do know a few that are using 99 Ron and on a standard car IMO is a waste of money

99 is only gonna benefit high performance engines, MR200 and above I would say thumbs

I tried 99 for a few refills in my fez. Didn't notice any real benefit in either consumption or running. Only saw about £10 a tankfull extra coming from my wallet.

No mp215 isnt mapped to 99. I think any performance car should run on decent petrol. I use to notice it lasting longer & when i used to play up with my mates 328 i used to be level when i was using 99 but he pulled away a little using 95. This was in my mk6 i think it makes more difference with a turbod engine.

The gains don't outweigh the price, unless ur in a proper high performance car it's not worth it

I disagree, worth it for the better mpg alone

I think I might give them both a go when I get mine and see what differences there are.

based on my current mpg of 32 and 22000km (13670 miles) per year, that difference of £2.80 per 35 litres would cost me about £160 a year

Ok its not much over year basis, but its £160 I would prefer to spend on other things than a few more Rons in my fuel...

But 1-2 better mpg would make it more cost effective.

im with Jack, my mpg noticeably went up running 99 and it only costs me on a totally empty tank £2.25 extra.

I will prob run mine on 99 from day one. That way I won't notice the extra price and think what I'm paying is normal lol

BP Ultimate is double Nectar Points so if you're gonna go higher fuel, make the most of the offers

Most of the garages that are close to me are shell garages. I normally get £10 off fuel every quarter from she using there loyalty card, you get double points for v power so should get more money back snigger

There really is no point putting 99ron in a ecoboost engine unless you have it mapped

Enlightening videos, thanks for the links. Basically for me, I'll stick with the standard 95 ron petrol. I'm getting 44mpg, and only put my foot down hard for overtaking. Even on fun runs that extra possible 5 hp shown on the golf GTI wouldn't benefit me enough to pay the extra.

At the very end of the day unless your car is specifically mapped to use higher ron fuel, it is doing absolutely nothing to your engine apart from potentially cleaning it out due to the extra detergents in it.

Most cars 2000 on have a 'knock' sensor which adjusts the timing depending on which fuel you put in and when it detonates - these can compensate for higher RON fuel, however, it won't improve performance when using it.

Sometimes, you can see marginal MPG increases when using higher RON fuel in a standard car (Personally, my MPG is exactly the same if I'm using VPower, Ultimate, Momentum as it is if I use standard Shell, BP, or Tesco fuels. When I did see an increase it was because I had adjusted my driving style to see if I could get higher MPG with the premium fuel.

You'd be far better off spending less on regular fuel, and adjusting your driving style to boost MPG - unless of course your car is specifically mapped for the higher octane fuel.

In the manual for my Leon, all power outputs are stated as using 99 RON fuel and the car prefers 99 RON.
The car will accept 95 as minimum, but in the manual it says to expect a small power loss if you use 95

Oh of course - some cars prefer higher RON fuel. You're always going to get the best output and MPG from using the fuel matched to the map on the ECU.

I still use VPower though, not sure why though haha

be warned guys, if you ever need to fill up in NL, Shell V-Power is not high RON, its normal 95 with additives "that make it effectively 97 RON"

don't know why Shell do that in their V-Power here
and yeah most higher RON fuels here are 97 or 98.
