Hi All,

Last weekend I said goodbye to my trusty 2007 mk6 ST and picked up a brand new 2014 mk7 ST-2 so I thought I would share with you some of my thoughts and first impressions of the new version:

My mk6 ST:

I loved my old ST it was so much fun to drive and it was like a little go-kart in the bends. I added some basic mods to it - Mountune CAIS and a flexi-pipe upgrade which made the car drive and sound a lot better. Suspension was very crashy at low speeds which I didn't mind but passengers did not enjoy it so much. I do mostly motorway miles so it as a bit tiring of longer journeys. Ford should have fitted a 6th gear and variable valve timing in my opinion.

The new toy: ST-2 in Race Red with the style pack added - stands out in the office car park!

First Impressions - What a difference, the power delivery, performance, in gear acceleration and the ride/conform are so much better than the mk6 I am still amazed how far the fiesta has moved on from the mk6 to the 7. The extra gear and the low down torque makes motorway driving a pleasure and overtaking is effortless now. MPG is better, tax is a lot cheaper and my insurance hasn't gone up.

Issues - Ford fitted a standard "fiesta" badge on the back instead of the ST one, this is getting sorted! Someone tried to rip my passenger door mirror off on the second day of ownership, I was not impressed. Gearbox sounds a little clunky 1st to 2nd but I believe this is a common trait of the dual mass flywheel? Very smooth gear changes though and the clutch pedal has a nice feel to it!

Plans for the car - The mountune MP215 will be getting installed in the next couple of months for sure and plenty of road trips!

Definitely should have had a 6th gear like the ST170 does, however the mk6 ST does have variable valve timing I think.

If you do mostly motorway miles, I can see why the new ST would be a big improvement. I drove a new Focus hire car on the motorway and hours of driving were effortless. I imagine the new Fiesta ST is very similar in terms of comfort and noise. The mk6 st isn't a good motorway car.

Turns out the tw*ts have not only snapped the mirror arm but bend the door skin. Not a good start! Cars now booked in to the body shop.

Short update - New ST badge has been fitted on the back replacing the standard fiesta one, and my mirror and door is now fixed. I will be giving it clean tonight so I will get some photos up asap!

First 1000 miles done and I am still loving the car.

Do you find the suspension in the MK7 a lot more crashy and harsh than the mk6. I find myself bouncing around more, although the seats hides most of this as they are ridiculously comfortable!

I find the suspension and ride more comfortable than the mk6, the seats do help out a lot though - plenty of cushioning.

Just done Liverpool to London and back and averaged 38 mpg with four up, air con on, and plenty of overtaking - not to bad.
