It also looks like I've tightened the bolts onto the ABS rings resulting in the ABS light coming, so I think I'm gonna have to replace the ABS rings in the next few days.

My bearings are fine and mine have ben on for over 18 months

I don't have camber with mine but it does sit nice and wide happy. Think its only hubcentric spacers that put pressure on the bearings as axle spacers just move the whole lot out if that makes sense?

I think it's normal for lowering to increase camber. You put the rear springs on first so they have probably bedded in by now so they might look different to the front. Hopefully the front wheels will have a similar amount of camber once they bed in.
Even with my car on standard springs, the negative camber is noticeable when looking at the wheels.

Yeah that makes sense. If the spacer went in between the hub and the wheel it would increase load on the bearing, but that isn't the case with these spacers since they go behind the hub.

Went back for round two today. Had the hubs off again, shortened three of the four bolts on each side, cleaned and refitted the hub.

Lowered all round and ABS light is now off!!

the axle spacers don't put extra stress on the bearings! thats why everyone uses them instead of the hubcentric ones, will put no extra load on the them than before all you have done is extend the axle

i dont have camber on my rears either, i wanna get camber on there, the easiest way is with very thin washers behind the hub on the bottom 2 of the 4 bolts

depending on the size of the spacers, they can eventually destroy the bearings by putting alot of pressure on them, but of they are only a couple of mm thick it will not hurt the bearings more than normal

Thanks guys, I can't really see the logic of this guy at the garage. As you all said, I've moved the hub out with the wheel so I can't see that there's any extra load on the bearings. Plus, I haven't read many / any posts on here to say that there's been a problem with bearings.

How hard is it to shorten the bolts? I'm guessing it's a lot of sawing and filing.
Had a go at fitting 12.5 rear spacers today only to find the bolts were too long and so had to put it all back together minus spacers. doh
I'm thinking it might just be easier to put washers under the bolt heads unless there's a reason why I shouldn't.

Don't use washers. Put a nut on the bolt, measure and cut, then take the nut off to preserve the thread. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes per bolt to saw through with a junior hacksaw.

OK thanks I'll try that.
If that fails, I might actually get the right length ones from a bolt supplier, remembered I need to get some for the mondeo calipers I bought which didn't come with bolts (and ford want £5 per bolt for those) so I could get these while I'm at it.

Measuring the ones I've got atm which are 40mm long, I think these would do for the spacers...

Agree, didn't take long at all. I had trouble with the ABS light coming on so I had to strip it all down again, clean it out with brake cleaner and shorten the bolts! I think I remember taking two 'threads' off (not sure what else you'd call them?!) which was bout 5mm. I filed the edges down too. With a bit of effort you can see the bolts behind the brake guard to check that they're not gonna rub on the hub.
