How do,

I wanted to learn how do certain jobs on the my car.. like changing the pads, discs and bleeding ect. knowing I would treat the vehicle with respect and care. kiss

I found a full set of ST 500 calipers going pretty cheap on Ebay. My intention was to buy the MT 4 pot upgrade for the front and paint the rear calipers red to match...after tying hammerite on the rear calipers it just seem to look crude and half assed and MT seem to never have the 4 pots in stock upset

Anyhow I decided to throw myself into the deep end and give the old calipers a complete overhaul, new pistons, rubbers, pins, just about everything from rust remover to even purchased a Dremel for the nitty gritty and of course a lick of paint happy

Dismantling the calipers was pretty straight forward..I had to use a Locksmith Door Opener Pump to push the front pistons out which took forever snigger

I bought a wind-back tool for the rear pistons..you actually have to pump the handbrake mechanism to release the piston..again took forever.

The hardest part was trying not to scratch the paint when fitting the wire spring on the front calipers hmm

Overall I really enjoyed the process and learned a lot of new skills along the way...

I'm very happy with the results and the braking is much better than before..the one man bleeder kit finished the job just fine thumbs

Look how dirty she is

She had a bath then a rubdown and then the paint went on

New rubbers, pads and pistons ect...

I also did the bonnet latch lol

Nice job!
Just curious, did you use ford parts for the pins, seals and pistons?

It's taken me about 5 weeks to complete the work. Mainly burning the candle at both ends at the weekend. The only Ford parts are the Front/Rear Slide pins and the caliper/carrier bolts.

It’s all in the preparation,

I wanted to use spray (ford radiant red) and not paint. The calipers I bought on Ebay was actually in very good condition…the donor calipers had only done 26K and it showed.

I mainly used good old foam sanding blocks and for more intricate parts the Dremel,

I used..

Front/Rear Fiesta ST500 calipers
4X sanding blocks
1X Rust remover,
1X Etch primer,
2X Red primer,
1X Ford panther black,
3X Ford radiant red,
1X Ford radiant red touch up paint,
1X Silicone grease/ Brake fluid,
1X Brake piston rewind kit,
2X Front caliper rebuild kit, Pistons and seals/rubbers. (BrakeParts.co.uk)
1X Rear caliper seal repair kit, seals/rubbers. (ACS)
8X Front/Rear Slide pins (Ford)
Front/Rear Caliper/Carrier bolts X8
Brake bleeder kit
Front/Rear Yellow stuff pads
Dremel
126,484X steel wire cup brushers (Dremel) these are the wasp’s ankles I tell thee. lol

I manage to use my current wire springs for the front calipers. I did spray them with panther black but when I put them on the caliper….well you can guess what happened to the paint. headbang

I also bought new splash plates

New Speakers front/Rear

New discs, I'm protecting the hub/lip with heat spray (aesthetics)

refurbished the wheels

Finally before I fitted the new calipers my dad resprayed under the arches.Something I was dubious about doing my self unsure

Thanks Guys,

I forgot to mention the hard wearing lacquer for that durable finish thumbs
