Totally agree, my Mk6 Fiesta, KA and Mondeo were/are all horrid for this. The blind spot that these create is a massive problem for motor manufacturers but they have to be that thick for rigidity in order to meet crash test regulations. The real problems arise when coming up to roundabouts or certain long sweeping right hand bends. A few degrees of blocked vision translates into a shocking ammount of road that you can't see.

Would you classify this as a major difficulty, or something that you can get used to and live with it, i've never thought about it, or seen it as an issue in my current mk4 fiesta?

It's the same on all new cars built to todays standards, so until a new design is achieved it is more a case of being something you have to accept.
