For all Max Mosleys faults, he did want to introduce the budget capping which convinced HRT, Caterham and Marussia to join the grid. Unfortunately it never came about and the three teams who have gone into administration and ultimately left the grid? HRT, Caterham and Marussia.

I can't see any other teams going for the time being - the only ones on the verge were Lotus, but it seems they've sorted themselves out for the moment.

Going to be a very strange couple of race weekends for Formula One. Maybe old Bernie will try to convince Haas F1 to join the grid a year earlier than planned...!

The worst part of it for me is that Marussia still have a driver in a coma in hospital, hopefully the administrators will have put aside funding for his care and repatriation when he's well enough.

There's talk of shortening the races so the stress on expensive engines is reduced, costs have risen from 11million for a seasons engines to 20+million this year!!

Also we may see the big teams running a third car to fill the grid

Still think teams should be given a chassis and tell the teams to do what they can with it.

Drivers changing their own tyres

In modern F1 the teams have to live in the real world and have to worry about fuel economy and preserving their engines. But they still get the five-star service at the pit stops. Wouldn't it be fairer – and more of a challenge – if they had to change their own tyres? It would take them longer than two seconds, that’s for sure!

Grids drawn by a lottery

The drivers have chosen their own lucky numbers, why not put that to the test by deciding the grid by a lottery – first out of the hat starts at the front. It would mix up the grid and could leave the fastest guys in the middle of the pack having to fight to the front.

Unusual terrain

Why do all Formula One circuits need to be made from Tarmac anyway? How about racing on different types of terrain like snow, sand or dirt… maybe even throw a jump in or two.

Circuit shortcuts

There’s all sorts of gadgets and gizmos to help aid overtaking in Formula One but when DRS and KERS aren’t enough, how about a shortcut? With so many alternative layouts at tracks like Abu Dhabi too, you wouldn’t even need to add any additional routes.

Tweeting during races

Modern technology now allows us to listen in on conversations between driver and team but when that isn’t enough for audiences, live in-race tweets from the drivers could be broadcast. With fancy screens on their steering wheels, drivers could keep us informed on their race with live Twitter updates.
