I'm not planning on any more power mods, so I'm after a remap and looking for some confirmation/advice etc, before I spend my money. grin

Seen loads of remap places from googling, but hard to tell which ones are good and which are people charging a lot of money to plug in some settings. Had a crap experience a few years ago where they tried to do a remap but the car started running on 2 cylinders every time they changed any settings. Fortunately gave a full refund, and might have been a good thing now as I had more mods since. Perhaps my car was the issue not them, but I want to avoid having that again.

Seems to be different methods/quality or remapping, basically:
1) generic altered settings to give some improvements
2) more specific adjustments to settings, accounting for your particular car and modifications
3) adjust while on a dyno to see how the car performs across the full rev range and they can fine-tune the settings and identify flat spots in the range and so on.

At the moment I'm thinking a few hours drive to get a really good job done is better than choosing the nearest place. I live in the north west, so ideally want somewhere around here but I will travel (good excuse for a drive anyway).

Nearest I have found are these: http://www.optimumtuning.co.uk (not sure what they charge) Fall into the first or second category as described above. I like the sound of these http://www.wilkinsonsvehiclesolutions.co.uk (£230 ish) they use a dyno, but they're a few hours away on the Yorkshire coast. I think they specialize in cars like st s but I haven't contacted them yet.

What do you lot think, or how did you have yours done?
And if anyone can recommend a place, could you let me know. Cheers happy

Generic Map from AMD or Jamsport. They have put in hours and hours of testing to work for the Fiesta ST so in my mind would be better than a custom map.
Whats your mods so far?

I'd stick with a Ford tuner my self as the smaller company's just get there maps emailed to then and then plug and play.

Dream science have an amazing map called hyper x that's been developed for just KnN and full exhaust but will.still work with the car if you don't have these plus it's only £200.

Custom is the way to go as Rob said it's mat he'd to your car but can be 300 upwards in price

Thanks for the ideas, it's just that £500 for Jamsport is a bit too much and AMD in Essex is a bit too far (5hr+ on motorway). This was sort of my dilemma to begin with.

Pumaspeed is close(ish) to me, what are their maps like?
I suppose the Dreamscience one would be ok for £200. Is that one that they send to you?
Although, I would rather have one that's specific to my car if possible.

My mods are induction kit and full exhaust. (and a 60mm TB)

Redstlee was looking into dreamscience, might be best to drop him a pm and ask. You've got motorsport developments in blackpool as another possibility

I just heard about dreamscience from Redstlee a few posts back happy
Them in Blackpool sound pretty good, £250 ain't bad either. They're about the best choice I have so far, and I like that they actually explain what they're going to be doing on their site...
Does the ST ecu allow live mapping?

Quote:

http://www.motorsport-developments.co.uk/custommapp.html
Custom ECU Remapping: During custom mapping, we run the vehicle on our dyno or out on the road with a data logger, knock detection equipment and wideband AFR monitoring gear and assess what parts of the ECU calibration require work and then go back to the workshop and re calibrate the necessary parts of the calibration on the PC before uploading it back into the ECU and performing the same test again.

This is repeated until such time as the calibration is as close to perfect as we can get it. Normally this can be done to an exceptional standard in one day at a cost of £250 all in. (This is often all you can do with a modern ECU that cannot be done live.)

Live ECU Mapping: (Not available for all types of ECU)
During live mapping, we will attach an emulator to the ECU and actually access the information within it whilst the engine is running and the ECU is in use. This is the ultimate form of mapping and usually gives far more accurate results than simple chipping or remapping and is usually quite a lot better than a custom mapping session too because we can adjust the data at the same time as the ECU is supplying results to the engine and so can assess the results in real time which makes it the ultimate way of finding little glitches, hesitations and flat spots. This is doubly true for those engines that have strayed from the norm and are now utilising uprated cams, ported heads, altered compression ratios etc. Live mapping on our dyno costs between £250 and £500 depending on the type of vehicle and work that needs doing. Average cost is £300.

custom is good in that it will be unique to your car effectively

I don't need one, but the car would benefit from one.

is your car not running well, be better spending money (a lot less too than remap cost) on things like a service, new plugs, leads, oil change, filter charge cleaner kit.
