Hi all, just thought I'd mention how I finally fixed the idle issues I've been having (see previous thread/post "idle issues", "which bit to change first"). Basically it was a split pipe.

The pipe is situated behind the inlet manifold and is from the PCV to the bottom of the inlet manifold. According to the ford tech chap it's a common fault. The pipe was £34.00 from ford.

I was supposed to take off the inlet manifold but I choose to just removed the bolts and move it away from the engine to give me (just) enough space to do the job.

To be honest the job was a complete bitch to do, but I have the satisfaction of having done it myself and saving me who knows how much to have it done by ford.

The little orange pipe on the left is the PCV, the pipe comes off this and attaches to the bottom of the inlet

Here's the little bugger

Good job and good to know for in future if it's a common thing.
Is it possible to see the pipe without removing the inlet manifold? - curious to see what mine's like.

Hi Jimmy, only the top inch or so before it starts to curve downwards. Luckily mine was split near the top so I could just see it. I posted pic's in the thread, idle issues, if you want to have a look. Although the experiment of spraying quickstart around the area got me looking in the area.

It's been suggested that if you have access to a garage ramp it's possible to get at it from underneath by removing the starter motor, but I don't think it's possible, as there is no leverage to get the pipe back on.

According to the ford tech chap it was more prevalent in the Mondeo but it's basically the same engine.
