Hello.
Can anyone please advise, what items of electrical equipment ( excluding the front windscreen itself ) would be required to retro fit a heated screen into an 07 Style, not originally fitted with one?

Local Ford dealer says no form of kit available.

Thank you Pete.

Interesting idea. I'm pretty useless with electrics, but anything with heating elements usually draws a lot of current so it would probably need to be a sustantial bit of equipment.

Did these not come with a heated screen as standard then? I thought they all had them!

Pete was asking about the Fiesta Style, not the ST. I've just had a quick look in my 2006 Fiesta brochure and the heated windscreen was only available on the Style as part of an option pack (as indeed it was as part of the Zetec-S even). That being the case, if it was originally available as part of a pack, in theory I can't see why it can't be retro fitted.

Many thanks to all for the input, keep it coming please.
Of course there is a switch required, a relay due to the current involved and I
am being told that there may be a timer of about two minutes, in case the owner
forgets to switch the unit off.

Am now told that the relay may include the timer mentioned.

Any confirmation on these points would be appreciated.
Thank you, Pete.

Just to confirm, that sounds about right as the heated windscreen switches off after a few minutes use. thumbs

Not sure if its a timer or a thermostat style switch. Temp sensor for it might be something else to factor in, if it has one.

I think it's a timer as I'm sure you can switch it back on once it's turned itself off.

Yes you can immediately turn it back on - useful on a cold winters morning when it's frozen up!

I would have thought that most of these features would be built into the GEM (timer functions etc). There's connections to the screen in both A pillars (one ribbon cable, one regular cable) which both go down the A pillars behind the dashboard.

I've pulled the relevant wiring diagrams for you.

To cut a long story short, it looks a total ballache to do it properly. You could bodge it by creating a new circuit (use a combination of timed relays, new feed from the battery, ignition switched relay and the Ford switch) in order to make it work bypassing the official method using the PCM and GEM modules.
