Hi everyone just picked up my first ST! Has a few mods already and would like some advice if and when I should remap it.
Spec: 2006 ST150 with Cosworth 421 exhaust manifold. Miltek catback resonated exhaust. K&N cone air filter. Lowered on springs about 30mm. KYB dampers. Drilled and grooved brakes all round.
Not looking to do down the upgrading cams root but was thinking sports cat to finish the exhaust off, no de-cat for me as the car is loud enough!
Also not sure if its got a racing clutch as the car wants to fly off as soon as it bites! Or is this just a perk of the ST?
Thanks in advance happy

Welcome. Sounds like most of the main mods are done already!
In my opinion theres no need for a remap unless you have cams swapped.
Yes I would say the clutch does seem to be a short bite on it, I stalled mine a few times when I first got it. If it's harder to control than that then I suppose it could be a paddle clutch but they're not really necessary unless turboed or supercharged.

Ok thanks, I see miltek advises remap on their site when fitting sports cat.

As an educated guess what BHP would you say that's sitting around? 160ish perhaps?

Think clutch is standard then, I have stalled it trying to quietly reverse park it late at night outside! Lol

Yeah, exhaust manifold, catback and pod filter will give about 160-165 I'd guess, the roughly equivalent Mountune kit was the MP165 (165PS).

Make sure you've got cold air feeds going to the filter from the grill so that it's not just drawing in hot air, that makes a big difference

Arh that's interesting to know. Last car was a stage 1 mk4 golf 1.8.T and this ST is a way better car and seems to handle the power better.

I need to sort the cold air feed as there is currently nothing feeding cold air in. And recommendations on what pipes to get?

My k+n came with 2 ducts something like 2" or 2.5", have a look at motorsports suppliers or Ebay for cold air feeds or brake cooling duct tube and just cable tie them from the bottom right of the front grill and direct the ends at the filter as close as possible

I was looking at the Golf tGTis back when I was also looking at STs, doubt I would have kept one as long as the ST which I've had 11 years

Cool thanks will take a look, I know the sort you mean. Filter needs a good clean too.

Golf was terrible, shook itself to pieces. Gear boxmounts kept breaking, went through 2 gear boxes in 2 months! Well thanks for the advice and tips happy

all good mods those, no need for a remap whatsoever.

Thanks! Bought myself the right ST by the sounds of it then, 80,000 miles which is good for the year.

Think I'll be spending out on cosmetics first then, front bumper and grills need a respray to freshing the look of it
