thought i would try out the alarm today seeing as though i had a new gem module
fitted of late,so i sat my 11yr old son in the and locked it he moved about
and waved and did the usual stuff to trip the sensors,i bet it took about 20secs
to set the alarm off!!!! ,yes the indicators now flash,however i am a little disapointed that its not louder!!!!.is there any way the volume can be
tweaked up at all.advice please or don,t tell me its another trip to the dare i
say it "the ford dealer" arrghh....

Apparently car alarms fitted as standard are quieter now because they have to adhere to some European law so it'll never be hugely noisy. Plus the ST's alarm is also supposed to get louder in louder environments. I think it does take a few seconds of waving about like a loon to set it off too.

I've heard of yet another person having all of their wheels stolen so I'm thinking I might get better locking wheel nuts and an aftermarket alarm.

I think there is a delay in arming the system, so no amount of waving will set it off at first, but when its armed it should work fine. Get your son to sit really really still for about 30 seconds and then get him to move and see if it goes off straight away!

Apparently, the ST alarm is so quiet as the module & horn are in the car behind some trim. This is beacuse it makes it far more difficult for a thief to disarm as they have to start removing trim. This also means the alarm will be louder in the car (where the thief is).

In this day and age, no matter how loud your alarm no one pays any attention to them, especially the ultra sensitive aftermarket jobbies that go off when a butterfly flies past.

In a way I guess it makes sense for it to be that way. I know someone said ages back that they'd sat inside when they had someone set it off, and it was piercing. Given that most people ignore alarms, it must be good that it does what its meant to and be a distraction/annoyance to a thief.

Having said that I do still think it is too quiet externally when it goes off!!

i get the drift i suppose, my only gripe is it of no help to me when i am
fast asleep in bed and i can,t here the alarm going off!!!! even more so
if there is some jerk trying to break in to it.

Got an alarm on my car as well and compared to my Corsa it does take a very long time for the alarm to work! Ford told me u have to wait about 30 SEC before the alarm work! For the noise my alarm went on while driving and could heard it but no one outside in the street or while driving didn't even look! so guess it s not very loud!

Just to go completely off subject here but can i just say babyboom that your english is very good. there is a noticeable improvement over the time you have been on here. it was good to start with but it is very very good now. Just thought i would say that

Yes, it is always good to see that the community on the site is spread over many different countries, and to see the different points of view. The standard of English of our overseas members is excellent, and much better than how most of us on here would be on a foreign forum. Long may it continue that we see a worldwide view on here!

mine goes off straight away once it senses something or if a doors open. however it does take a while to arm, but i think this is usual
