I was cautious, because I've seen tv programs about ways cars get jacked so I put my mp3 player out of sight and took the key out on the ignition before getting out. Only problem with that is the lights change to side lights. I did'nt notice any damage to the other guys mondeo (i think thats what it was) but that was parked some distance away. I had never heard of the spray garage he was talking about but you never know, he could be genuine because he gave me his name.

I've rung up a scrapper and located one! £35 + VAT for the complete unit. Only problem is they said its black which means that I'll have to get it sprayed up. I hope it is an ST one and not a MK6 plastic one I'll have to see what condition its in. They specifically said it was for an ST so I wont be pleased if I get there and its not because its a bit of a drive.

I'd be tempted to take the housing off the one from the scrappy, get the paint from a dealer and spray it myself. Wont be an exact match, to the rest of the car however you will hardly notice. Should save you a few pounds.

I got a new mirror...well a second hand one from DMS (Doncaster Motor Spares)which cost £35+VAT (£41.13) and I had the cap sprayed up for £20 notes from some guy that one of the lads at work has used before. Fitted it myself and it looks pretty much like it did before now. They had bloody reserved me a standard Zetec S mirror when I got there which is no good because it was not heated or colour coded. I think it's only available on the ST/GHIA. The guy at DMS looked at my car to check it and knew it was different so he went searching for 20 minutes and came back with nothing so I got him to check on the computer at other branches. Then he had another check and had a brain wave (thank god) and checked where they had put an ST body kit and sure enough he found one. There's other ST parts there if anyones looking for something in particular but its all red. Its a shame I did'nt get to see the car but I bet the owner is gutted.



So all in it cost me £61.13 which is'nt too bad but it should'nt have happened in the first place and it works I bet it would have cost another £100 at the robbing gits! It was fairly simple to take on/off but the electrical socket is a complete arse to pull off because the catch does'nt always go low enough!

I've stopped going down that road now when its dark which adds another 5 minutes on to my journey back from work but it could be worse next time.
