When I picked my car up the salesman told me that if there is a garage close that sells Unleaded plus to use it as it is made for cars like the ST, he said he uses it all the time for his focus and that's what they use when filling a new car for pick up!

Forget the performance for a while.

You get what you pay for.

If you fill your tank up with the more expensive Ultimate etc, it will cost about £1.50 to £2, or there abouts, more than the cheapo stuff.

For that tankfull, at an extra £1.50 - £2, the lubricants etc will help clear those jets, piston bores and all sorts of things, because the additives are in it to do this.

Whereas the cheap s**t at a saving of a couple of quid per tank full, will have no performance difference in the short term, but in the long term it will, because there are no sort of lubricants in it to protect your engine.

So to summarise.

You pull in to get petrol,
You've only got a fiver on you,
You put in the cheap s**t because you think your getting more fuel for your Fiver.Agreed, you will.
But, you will not get more miles out of it because your engine is slowly but surely deteriorating.

Thats my answer anyway.

As you can see, i can write an essay on this.(and will add the theoretical points if you want) You will not go like a rocket putting the more expensive fuel in, but you will protect your engine more.

Started off using V Power but to be honest I just usual the normal stuff where ever's cheapest

i get your point and it makes sense but the closest shell,bp,outlets are a fair old distance away from me.i will check though next time i go to my local total fina as i think they may do a performace type fuel thingamy whatzit.

Well I live in Pompey and we have BP and Shell, both good petrol station so spoilt for choice!

Not sure about BP unleaded Plus, never heard of it. I thought there was BP Unleaded, Unleaded Ultimate and Ultimate 102 Unleaded - the silver pump - god know how much that costs!

Well over here in germany it is aral (which is BP under a different name) ultimate which is 100 octane and v power which again is 100 octane. strangely the total excellium over here on the continent is 98ron. very bizzare. i always use bp/aral ultimate because with my tax free thingys it works out at pennies more for every 10 litres.

Sod it filled her up with Normal

Dont like change

easy choice!! normal cheaper, ultimate more expensive and "may" gain a few bhp or drop ur fuel comsuption!

I always use Shell V-Power (99 RON), I swear by the stuff! When I first had the ST I was just using standard 95 RON unleaded and I was getting 270-280 miles to a tank (I do a lot of motorway driving). Then I started using Shell V-Power and managed to get 350 miles to a tank. The car also has improved throttle response and feels to rev more freely and wants to get up and go a lot more. Also if you are using dreamscience on your car, depending on the map that you're using, you will have to use a higher octane fuel to prevent pinking.

Look, don't start shouting all at once, but I've used the following, Shell, normal and V Power, Sainsbury's, normal and High-octane, Esso, both types, Jet, BP, both types, Total and just about anything else on the market. The best for economy, Jet and the best for MPG, Jet.

I didn't believe it, so I did the tests again - same result. The higher octane petrols just run through the engine, don't give any more power and cost more. Jet, rough and ready, it loves it, 32+ mpg and bags of go!

Just petrol

I used to use BP Ultimate, but i tend to use V-Power now. i know you should stick to just the one blend, but i've switched to Shell.
