Right washing my car today and probably as many of you do if you come across somthing the sponge wont budge you get your nail to it. Well as i noticed on the ENTIRE of the cars bodywork there seems to be what can only be described as pinprick holes of rust

I've never noticed this before if anyone can shed any light on this problem it would be very much appreciated.

I've tried taking a picture on my camera but it doesnt show up.

Tony

The pictures not bad you just cant see the liitle specs dont think my cameras that well suited for microscopic details. If you look at your keyboards full stop sign there smaller than that!

I talk to my mom about ur problem and she was telling me she know someone who have the same problem as u on his car and its due to what u call "metal flakes" cos his living few miles away from a metal factory and it does the same to his car!

I remember people saying they had rust dots on their cars & seem to dealerships using the phrase "industrial fall out". Sounds a bit dramatic but possibly what babyboom meant?

Have you tried a clay bar Tony? (no Electric Six jokes please). You can get them from Halfords with a bottle of Meguiars Quik Detailer. They lift any bit of dirt you have on your car, even when you think its clean! Just be sure to use plenty of Quik Detailer, never ever clay a bit of dry paint and have a soft, plush towel to wipe off and always give the car a wax afterwards maybe as a layer of protection from whatever this is.

tony sorry for delay anyway this morning i took a detailed inspection of the wifes st and when i look closely on the tailgate i saw what appeared to be very small like pinpricks of rust dotted about but as i say they were very very small and also spotted a few on the nearside front panal,i have,nt washed the car for over a week and its been raining today but once we get a decent day i will give it a good wash and wax and see what the results are, just bear in mind though her car is only 2 month old....if the pin pricks are still there then i shall be back to the dealers....watch this space.

by the way i like the 100% member spammer club badge logo.....wheres mine

Thanks pinky and iceman well at the weekend me and my dad are gunna give it a really good polish because weve done a patch and its come out, god knows what it is is but i dont think it is rust because if there were breaks in the paint it would feel worse than it does

Those little pinpricks are one of the reasons I've refunded my ST. Both of them were covered in them and they turned out to be blemishes in the paint work. It almost looks as though there were bits of dust or grit on the body of the car when it was sprayed, or the paint was to thick and it bubbled and popped. They hadn't gone rusty when i got rid of the car but it was only 3 weeks old so it never had the chance. Ford tried to polish them out of my first ST but they couldn't get them out, they aodered me a new car but that was just as bad as the first. Take the car back to the dealer ship and talk to them about it?

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I washed my mucky car today and I found these too! The whole car is covered in them. They are very rust coloured, but there is nothing that I can see physically wrong with the paint. They seem to be on top of it?! Did anyone get anywhere with finding out what they are?

Yea i took mine back to Ford yesterday after me getting them all off about a 2 weeks ago they came back, they think its just something settling on the paint. it isnt the paint braking or chipping just some annoying spots on it that budge under your finger nail.

White shows too many imperfections up, i'm just going to keep my eye on it, its probably on most cars you just cant see it

White does show a lot. I've had a few white cars and if they live outside all the time (i.e. not in the garage) you will not be available to avoid this unless they are washed pretty much evey day. These little "specs" exist on other colour paints too but they are les visible, especially on metallic paints.

Yeah they're stuck on pretty hard and they REALLY look like rust at first inspection, but they do come off pretty easily.

Weird!

As Pinky has already said, this sounds like industrial fall out.

Quite well known to Ford it affects cars more in a solid colour, cars brought into the country & left at dagenham in the compound sometimes suffer from this as there is a railway line which runs accross the back thus seding metallic particles into the air which adhere to the cars paintwork.

Ford have a fix for this which is a kind of an acid wash, not sure i'd want my new motor to have one of those though!!!.
