Hey everyone,

I've had my from new in September and have only covered 1800 miles so far, but when I was looking at the front drivers side tyre this morning I noticed it is wearing very rapidly on the outside edge. I have had Pirelli tyres before and they never wore down as quickly as this!

Is it a trait on the ? I was wondering if the tracking was out because when I'm driving in a straight line, the steering wheel is not centred properly.

Any Ideas?

You probably have the front tracking out because you car havent cover enought miles to be already wearing out!And the steering should always be center you should go and check with your dealer and maybe try to do the tracking and even try to make im buy a new set of tyres! You never no he may do it!

I'll have to book it in and get them to have a look at it, the alarm needs fixing so they might aswell do that at the same time!

For all those problems your not the only one, if u check on previous topic there were posts on both subjects already!

I'm suffering with this problem.
The inside edges of the front tyres have gone, it's only done 8,000 miles.
Also the steering seems to have a life of it's own, it will not follow a straight line, you always are having to correct it. When braking on uneven surfaces, the steering will pull quite sharply, also, bad bumps in the road will try to take the steering out of your hands.
Is this an ST trait or should I get it looked at? *I've had the tracking checked and they said it was spot on.

My car skates all over the road aswell, just down the road from home the road is in really bad repair and when I drive over it I have to hang on to the steering wheel with an iron grip otherwise I would end up off the road!

My old 306 used to tram line sometimes, but the fez does it all the time. My mates MK5 Zetec S holds the road better than my !!

Maybe your car tyres are over inflated!Have you check there pressure by anychance? own a A 1L Corsa with 14" alloys and I do feel more confident driving fast with that car than the ST!

Sounds like you're all in need of some alighnment. Having covered 8000 miles in mine it wanders terribly (due to the uk's crap pot holed roads) after hitting many holes the tracking is way out. But i'm getting a new one on Monday, woooo hooooo. One of my orevious cars was a Lexus IS200 which was really bad for tyre wear. It required a four wheel alighnmet after every thousand miles!!!

The ST tram lines like a good 'un. It is a "feature"

O that it does, even worse when the tyre pressures are low and the tracking is out. Concentration required at all times!!!

I noticed the lively steering when I test drove teh ST; it literally pulled to the left of the road and it was very worrying but it was becasue of the road surface. I put it down to tight steering rack, big wheels and low profile tyres.

I also get the same problem under breaking but again I think it is road surface related

I know some people will moan and say the car should pull straight when breaking and small road deviations should't pull the car, but you can't have it both ways; you can have a comfy ride or a well focused chassis that handles a dream (on the race track at least )

Mine was really bad .... its amazing what a difference new tyres at the right pressure and tracking adjusted makes.

It was getting unbearable to drive but now its like new again.

I'm thinking its best to check tracking every 4 months, with the hard ride and big F off pot holes where i live.

For a quick tracking check run the palm of your hand across the tread. If the tracking is out you'll find your hand moves easier in one direction than it does in the other direction. This is due to the scrubbing of the tread wearing the rubber sideways as well as along the tread.

If it's easier to push inwards towards the centre of the car the track is toed in, and vice versa.

My ST has only done 4000 miles but so far the tyres seem to be wearing pretty evenly. I do keep the fronts slightly higher than book and the rears slightly lower by about 0.1 bar for normal 1 or 2 persons. The pressures drop in cold weather too, so they need checking regularly. With the negative camber on the ST if they are soft it's the inner edges that will show it first.

Worse than a zs? They do tramline quite bad just learn to hold the wheel with two hands, especially on badly surfaced roads. I bought my car of a woman who thought it was broken because of that.

I had a standard mk6 before the ST and it was like driving a completely differnt car. The ST is so much more resposnive but it takes some getting used to.

Get the tracking checked tho.
