Totally agree with the getting used to it bit. I have posted on here a couple of times about my lack of ESP, and the occassional lack of traction. But realised that going from a 90bhp 1.4 corsa to a 2.0 more powerful car was going to have to include a change in my driving style. The ST is actually a really easy car to control when the front end does come loose, none or very little understeer.
You just need to give it the respect it deserves.

Just to put a firework in here, you are all talking about the ESP as if it is there as a boundary for messing up a corner or doing something too fast, which is not what it is there for. I have it on my car and think that it should be standard on any car. I mean when you brake hard the ABS doesn't always kick in because the cars grip is good enough to not allow it. But that one time when you just happen to be going round a corner (driving normally) in the wet and find an obstacle in the way, you are thankful you have the ABS to stop your wheels spinning. Same with the ESP. If you are on the motorway doing 70mph (honest guv) and a lorry pulls out straight in front of you and you have to swerve, without ESP you will likely skid and spin around. With ESP you wont, the car will brake the wheels losing grip and cut the power, causing no skid or loss of control.
What people have said about cornering though is true, if you cock it up it will cut in to stop the skid. I personally think that if you have the money, do it. Just think of the cost of repairing the car in accident, only to think that may have been avoided had you had ESP to stop a skid.
Just a thought.............

OK..... I don't have ESP but at times I wish I did.
I think that for my everyday driving I would always have it off, but the ST is a potent little car that has a tendency to spin its inside wheel when pulling away hard on a corner (eg pulling onto a main road from a side road).
IMHO I don't think ESP will saves your life when pratting about too fast around a corner or if a lorry pulls out in front of you (thats what anticipation is for!!) but it does stop you looking like a chav when leaving work in a bit of haste
I have never had any worrying moments in the ST and I do push it relativly hard. Electronic trick mickery is no substitute for driving skill.... and often gets in the way too!
So... is £750 for ESP worthwhile?..... you could also get bluetooth, Auto climate, and stripes for that and then you can talk to your car and people will talk about your car!!!

I get your point, but I have to slightly disagree with you here.
It's all down to driver skill.
ABS is good because people will NOT take their foot off the brake when the wheels lock up so they end up taking longer to stop and hit something.
If you release the brake pedal once skidding the wheels will start to turn and you can regain control, but not many people have got the bottle to do it, they just press harder and harder on the brake pedal.
ABS effectivly takes the brake off and on again electronically - same effect
ESP is the same effect as ABS, if you take your foot off the gas when you start to under/over steer then you can regain control of the car.
But ESP, unlike ABS is very intrusive so you end up turning it off, forgetting you've done so, get carried away and end up in a ditch.
Even though I haven't owned a rear wheel drive car for over 5 years, I still drive my front wheel drive cars like a rear wheeel drive (slow in fast out), that way, whenever I jump back into a rear drive car again I won't get caught out.
Unlike my brother who thinks he's invinsible, but a crap driver. He's lost control of every car he's had because he doesn't understand the slow/fast theory.
ESP should be standard for him.
