hi,
im getting my ST on 1st march and my girlfriend said she'd get me some mods coz i drive her everywhere!

anyway i want a remap and induction kit. im thinking of getting a bluefin coz thats all i can find any info on. do these give noticable gains in terms of accelleration? can anybody suggest anything better than bluefin that will give more bhp?

also which induction kits are proven to work on the fiesta? i would get a piper viper but i dont wna make a hole in my bumper. so, im thinking k&n. can anybody give any helpful info on which kits they have tried and tested, or which 1's do actually work.

I've got a K&N 57i which I'm more than happy with. It gave a lovely induction roar when I had it fitted (now drowned out by my exhaust *lol*). Its the cheapest option, well liked, works fine etc etc When you look at others that when the £££ goes up. If you are that bothered about induction kits and avoiding heat soak etc then spend the cash. I couldnt be naffed. I havent even got the cold air feeds fitted to mine! I had a 5bhp gain with it fitted.

Bluefin hasnt performed as well as people had hoped. It seems it suits the Focus cars very well but has a poor performance with the ST (not to say, however, it doesnt have some). I'd look up information on Dreamscience ( http://www.dreamscience.co.uk ), which seems to be a much better remap for the car (people have got 10-22bhp gains with it). Its expensive though at a squeak under £500, but you can have several remaps for your car (e.g. a map for your car on 95 RON fuel, a map for the car on 97,98,99 RON fuel etc). Also it has data logging so you can plug it into your computer and have a look see what your car is doing. If you mod your car a bit more then you can have the car the dealers can then load a new map for you specific to those mods.

I've rolling roaded my car from standard and after every mod.

I havent been in a car with Dreamscience fitted yet but I know a couple of people who do & love it.

im well impressed with a 5bhp increase with a k&n cone filter. i been advised that they can actually put bhp down!

just got off the phone to a dreamscience dealer. he thinks a remap will put up my power by 16-18 bhp, not bad considering bluefin does about 10bhp.

so with a k&n cone filter and dreamscience remap i could take my st up to 170bhp! thats not bad hey...
are you gonna get a dreamscience remap eventually?

If I can ever get the cash together. Other things keep getting in the way like pesky insurance, road tax & fuel

I've got coilovers, full exhaust system custom made and the rest is cosmetic stuff (steering wheel retrimmed to have perforated leather at the sides like the Focus ST, leather gear stick gaitor, tinted sunstrip, aftermarket headunit etc etc)

I've had my car rolling roaded at 170bhp as it is. I'm crap at 0-60's etc so I don't know any adjusted times. A few people I know are going to the Pod at the end of this month & 2 of them have Dreamscience so, if I remember, I'll let you know.

I think Pinky has pretty much covered it.
The K&N is a good proven induction kit for the ST, you can't go wrong with it.
As for the remap I don't have any experience of Bluefin but I do have dreamscience and highly recommend it. The difference it made is amazing (bluefin might do the same). However dreamscience does offer a lot more features.

Bring on the Pod, can't wait to see what my car can do (hope I don't fluff my starts!)

lol, let me know how the pod goes. im well intersted to see how it fast it goes with mods.

to tell you the truth, i just wanna have enough grunt at my disposal to fend off clio 182s etc. the ST is a bit slow at stock so i really wanna bring it up to the level that it should be. the chasis is more than capable.

thing is i cant really do that as i would like to keep my warranty!!!

Hey guys, with the mods you made to increase power, how badly did this affect your insurance costs? Just curious as to what I should expect when I make some performance mods. Also, did you upgrade your brakes and how about the speedometer/dials, did they have to be reprogrammed? I assume yes. How much are we talking in total, roughly, to makes these kinds of changes?

richie, induction kits do very little to insurance premiums. my cone filter on my current fiesta only put up my premium by about £50 a year. small price to pay for the animalistic roar i got from it. when your car needs to go for service the induction kit clips off and you can put the standard air filter back on very easily.

also, the beauty of remaps like bluefin and dreamscience is that they are completely software based. whats more is that these remaps are fully reversable by the touch of a button. so there is not really any need to declare this type of remap to the insurance company, and you wont lose your warranty either.

this is why both of these mods are a must on my checklist.

ST Racer - I haven't had my car on a rolling road yet, so not sure what she's kicking out. I'm estimating 175-180bhp with 160-170lbft torque. With my mods I can have a good hack with a Clio 182, but can't leave them behind - very even.

Richie - it all depends who you're insured with, give them a call to ask.

The speedo/ dials do not need reprogramming.

I have upgraded my front brakes to 300mm discs, using Mondeo ST220 calipers. Rears to be done soon (280mm discs).

gareth, what mods do you have besides the k&n and dreamscience? im well impressed you can hold off clio 182s. they hit 60mph in around 6.5s i think.
the guy ive booked my remap with said he'll do the rolling road for free as its the 1st fiesta st he has done. im not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing...

ps - pls take the gas mask off, im getting a bit scared.

You must have noticed quite a big difference in power and handling with those mods. How much did that cost you altogether if you dont mind me asking?

I am going to get the Dreamscience remap kit. If I'd known about this and how it works sooner, I would have bought it already, but I just bought a Road Angel, which set me back £200. So I'll need to wait a month or two before I have the cash to get the remap. I think I'll get the remap before new alloys though.

I love my Viper, but as I haven't used a K&N can't say whether it's any better. I do have a cold air feed but it sits just behind the lower grill, there's absolutely no need to cut through the grill.

All in all I think I've spent around £2500, but worth every penny.

I bought an induction kit and I am talking to the guys at Bluefin and Dreamscience. I should have everything in place by the start of next month and I'll let you know how it goes.
