i have noticed a few tiny chips on the bonnet and very faint scratches on my poor ST i think a bloody road salting machine is guilty of the scratches as it flew past me and the grit pelted the car quite hard whats the best product to try and polish or cover up chips etc???

Those gritters

I use a touch up stick, but use a fine paintbrush unstead of the brush that is attached to the lid. Works a treat for me!

Dont use a brush....
Use a piece of card which has been cut to a thin point.
It is difficult to explain....I have a "mer" sctach and chip repair kit. It comes with what looks like a book of matches, but without the heads on the matches!
Anyway, you just tear out a "match" and angle cut the end using sharp scissors, so you are left with a really fine point, almost like a needle. You then use this fine card point to apply the paint to the chip - it gives you incredible accuracy. It is the recommended method used by pro-valeter types.

As I said, its difficult to explain, but hopefully you can see what I mean?
Give it a go!

I've covered the worst of my stone chips (some are even craters out of the metal of the bonnet etc) with the touch up paint, just to stop anything rusting until I get the front end resprayed in the next few months

No probs mate

Where do you live in Glasgow out of interest?
I lived in the Merchant City for 3 years (due to work) now down in London (work again) but the wife n kids are North of Aberdeen!

Gotta say I LOVED my 3 years in Glasgow. Ive travelled all over with my job, but Glasgow really sticks in my mind! Its a fantastic City.

My only bad experience was someone running into the M5 I had at the time, causing 3k of damage and then driving off!!!

Could have happened anywhere I suppose....

I've got tonns of them on my focus bonnet... i've come to accept that if i re-spray the bonnet they will all just come back.

I just polish over them and ignore they are there.

If you drive your car, it's never going to stay perfect really.

I know Kirkie, done a few presentations at Kirkintilloch High School. Funny that whenever I went to Lenzie Academy, it was always sunny, but whenever I went to Kirkie HS, it always rained!

Other than doing what Scotty, Andy or I do, the other option is to spend upwards of £500 for Paintshield (a plastic like covering stuck to your car that helps protect the paint against chips etc).

i have a bloody hole in my bonnet stripe! only about the size of a pin head but i can still see it! also a notch out the door handle (someone has obviosuly hit my door with theres), a scuff on the side skirt (not my fault - it was my shoe!) and also some irresponsible frigger has obviously walked too close to my car for comfort with a bag cos there is a dirty great big scratch right down the passenger side at about knee height(only took the laquer off though so it should t cut out.) and its not a straight scrath either its a wiggly line! oh and loads of stone chips. a little corner off my front stripe where someone tried to pick it off and couldn't cos the tiniest amount of viynl had been stretched to about an inch so i had to cut it off (and you can't see it really cos its only took about 1/2 cm squared off the corner)and now i have wrote everything down i'm quite mad about it all really.

Wapster,
I was giving a presentation about careers in the RAF. We can take a 3 year "career break" for all intents and purposes, and I did 3 years as a Careers Liaison Officer in Glasgow.
Now Im back to my main (RAF) job, as an Aerospace Systems Manager, although I handed in my notice last week (this is my 5th year of living apart from my family and I cant take much more). So I will be a civvy in 18 months time after 23 years of talking to aeroplanes for a living. Ill be looking for a job in the real world.......................

Im bloody dreading it!

Andy
