From the handbook:- Engine oil change - use Ford/Motorcraft Formula E SAE 5W-30 engine oil (this is a semi synthetic oil) Alternative engine oils with the viscosity 5W-30 meeting Ford Specification WSS-M2C913B or 913A(for petrol engines only)may also be used. (No mention of damage to the engine) Engine oil top up - if the Ford oil Specification is not available, you must use an oil of SAE 5W-30 or 5W-40 or 10W-40 viscosity meeting ACEA A1/B1 or ACEA A3/B3. Use of these oils may result in longer cranking periods, reduced engine performance, reduced fuel economy and increased emission levels. is it different in the latest handbooks? http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_5W-30.aspxSo it meets Ford WSS-M2C929-A I wonder whether that's the latest specification? if so it will do fine, though the bedding in problem still exists for any synthetic.

Only use ford oil from a ford dealer.Other peoples oils make ford run rubbish (and also the valves stick after a few thousand miles. A new engine will always burn a little oil while it's bedding in. Seeing as you've let it run so low. i would reccomend getting it changed now. You always check the oil when the engine is WARM as the oil is thinner and gives you a truer reading, but you must leave the car for 10 mins after switching off to let all the oil drain into the sump
I rest my case. In fact If you read your handbook it tells you the same thing
MMMM.... Ford dont make a penny when you buy other oils.....Ford make a MASSIVE profit when you buy motorcraft oil......I cant for the life of me think why Ford recommend you use their oil?
Im sorry, but like I said, older Ford engines were very particular about oil...the CVH engines tended to be bad for emulsifying their oil, so Ford put a detergent into theirs which stopped this happening..but then there were very few industry definable standards.
Its funny to see that the Focus 2.0TDCi, Volvo s40 2.0D, Peugeot 307 2.0D, Citroen C4 2.0D and Mazda 6 2.0D ALL use the same engine in different states of tune.....and I will bet every one of them recommends own brand oils for their cars.

Yup exactly. And if you look on your fuel filler cap it says that ford recommends BP petrol but thats because they are a sponsor. Its all about the money.
funny it does not say that on my filler cap,but whats that pathetic bit of plastic thats attached to the filler cap,how long before that snaps off, neither use nor ornament.
Do have the BP sign on my fuel cap!
