Yeh I know I could do that but due to where & how I was driving and the need to refuel again, I had to put a bit more in before I finished my first full tank so I had to estimate it

my fuel consumption has improved markedly since I've had it. Nearly 4k on the clock now, and fuel consumption is settling around 33mpg. Am pretty pleased with this, as i only got 35ish out of my 1.6 Zetec.

Put it this way... he ain't slow.

All the miles to a tank talk is next to meaningless though unless the tank is filled to the same point by everyone and then driven until it runs out.
The last 20-30 miles out of a tank will make a massive difference to the overall apparent economy figure.

It is better to:
1) Fill to the brim (to the filler neck)
2) Reset the trip mileage
3) Drive until whenever you next feel like filling up
4) Fill the tank to the brim
5) Calculate the economy from the mileage and number of litres inserted.

33mpg is pretty impressive I think. Even after a decent 110mph+ stint (private road ) in my Mondeo I am still averaging 46.8mpg to the tank.

Totally agree with Hugh's method, thats the way I calculate my mpg.

I'm curious as to what The Dude is getting in terms of mpg, how many miles have been covered and how hard he's driving his ST???

Just finished my second tank and my consumption has gone from 25 to 26.5mpg a slight increase and I may have done a few shorter runs so its definately getting better.

Yesterday did my first bit of motorway driving (75 miles worth) so my next tank should be interesting!!

Having had piss poor ecomony for the first 4 - 5 tanks approx 26 - 30mpg things are definately looking up .... and if anything im driving it a lot harder than i was. Fannying around and watching my revs on my 3rd tank actually produced the worst mpg of the lot!!!!! Since then however with 3000 miles now on the clock the car has loosened up (have now taken it up to its max speed too and it really doesnt seem as if your going that fast....the car is so much more refined than my old Zetec s , over the last thousand miles its become quicker through the gears and the last 3 tanks have been 33 - 35 mpg! Am happy with that

If anyone wants to use it I knocked up an excel spreadsheet. Just fill in the yellow boxes putting in the date, mileage, litres and cost and it will work out MPG MPL cost per mile etc

Its on my webby www.littlelegs.co.uk password is st

Had my St since March 1st and I've always been getting reasonable mpg -- at first it was 33mpg, I put this down to the fact that I travel 270 miles a week (extra urban)each week the mpg was gone up a little and this week its up to 38.5mpg
