I think you have misunderstood me there! This isn't about what I would prefer, because at the end of the day, we're comparing a £4k car to a £10/9k car, so that's pretty obvious! Budden just wanted to know about performance comparison, so that was my 2pence i guess.

I agree the fiesta is a great car, very well built with lots of nice extras and a lovely interior, but that's also what makes it just not quite as raw as the saxo!

Either way, the fiesta is brilliant, I just wouldn't choose it myself if i had the money, but then I'm a bit weird

However, i do think one or two people are underestimating the handling capabilities of the Saxo. Remember this car is 935kg in weight, it is extremely well balanced and nibble through corners.

My conclusion is that i fail to see how a well set up car of nearly 1200kg can "leave a VTS standing" in corners which is also well set up and also 935kg. The VTS is bound to change direction just as quick if not quicker!

Well my previous car was a Pug 106 GTi (EXACTLY the same engine and chasis but different panels) so the saxo VTS but rarer

AND........ the is MILES BETTER at handling like you wouldnt believe!!!!!

Have you even driven an - if you had you would know that the racing suspension is AMAZING and the suspension on the 106/saxo is like cornering on a plate of jelly - trust me ive owned both!

A saxo VTS may just win by a cars length on a straight but on a country road you aint got a hope in hell at out cornering/braking an !!!!!

Just my input

TonyM - Glad to hear from someone who has had the comparison of the 2.

Don't you think though everything you just said is just down to the stiffness of the suspension? I agree the ST is probably easier to get on with when thrashing but part of me just thinks its because the saxo is slightly too soft. Everything else is perfect, the chassis, the balance, the weight and feedback of the steering, etc.

I suppose its just down to what you prefer. I love the saxo handling but im always wanting it to be stiffer which is why i might get it lowered on springs & adjustable dampers. My GF has a 172, which also has superb handling, probably better than the ST so I have heard, but i still prefer my saxo any day to throw around corners.

I guess I'm just too biased to the saxo, but i can imagine the ST is a superb car to drive! If not a bit underpowered

I beleive it's possible the saxo would win though you may loose some time when cornering due to having to hold the dash board in place.

A few years ago we were lent a Citroen AX while our Rover was in for a panel repair. Christ, what an awful car that AX was. Cheap, tinny and it felt as though it would blow away in the wind! Not only that, but other drivers ignored us - they'd pull out in front of us as though we didn't exist. The most frightening week of our lives. It smelt of cats, too
