As there is a Mile Per Gallon thread i just thought id add this one along side it as i have found in the past alot of people dont know how to work out MPG so miles per full tank will rectify this!!!

Who ever managed 310 to a tank must have a v.light foot, or was running on fumes when they filled up!!!

Very Very... only get 320 to the tank in my 1.8 focus so 310 in the fez is brilliant news and it can only get better!!!

i have not sat down and worked it out but i must admit it drank the fuel in the first week, it was £30 worth and did 160ish miles. but it has settled down this week i still done round about the same miles and have some left and only put £20 in.
I think it just needs to bed it'self in IMO.

Seems 290 is the average at the moment... give it a few months and you might be getting 310-320 out a tank, or is that a bit ambitious?

I'm sorry but all the talk in this thread is truly meaningless, that is unless people are running their tanks absolutely dry and even then it still depends on how full it was at the beginning.

The best thing to do is fill the car until you can see the fuel touching the lip of the filler, running the car for a couple of hundred miles then filling the car up again to the filler and seeing how much fuel they used and working the MPG out from that. Even that is still a patchy method as Fuel expands and contracts depending on temperatures but at least that way you might get a vaguely representative and useful figure.

What I usually do is keep a log book as this is the best way (personnaly) that I think to do it.

Keep a book in the car (a A5 hard cover notebook, it fits perfecly next to the manual in the holder in the glove box) every time you fill up take down the date, fuel used to fill up (liters / gallons), distance traveled (trip). At the end of each month you add all fields to an Excel spreadsheet and get an average of the lot.

With this information and the right formulas you can get your fuel used per liter / galon, distance travelled per liter / galon and your average cost per tank.

Do this for a few months and compare the results. That should give you a 90% idea of the actual.

On comaring my averages there is approx a 0.3 - 0.5 km/l difference, so it is quite accurate.
