I worked in insurance for years and I know for a fact that 99% of the time ANY modification to a vehicle (normally to increase performance, but some companies are bothered about wheels and bodywork too) will void your insurance unless declared.

Most of the time if you do declare it they will decline you or in some cases whack a hefty weighting on the policy and increase the premium. Then when it comes round to renewal, they'll say they can no longer offer you insurance, which then goes down as a refusal to insure, which CAN (with some companies like CIS) make it more difficult to get insurance elsewhere.

its the same over u not aloud to do mod on ur car but insurance usually pay for it but only pay for the price of the standard part! which usally cost more than the mods anyway! as for engine Ur not aloud to touch the engine even a induction kit but do some mods anyway!

You have to be careful who the insurance is being underwritten by. HIC is a broker and could choose crap underwriters such as highway who never pay out. People with modified cars also try liverpool victoria which is underwritten by themselves I think. I prefer RBS backed insurance such as Direct line, Priviledge, Tesco, Virgin etc. I've been thinking of adding a flexi pipe and K&N but it seems to get the insurance's back up.
