After owning my car from brand new for about a month i seem to be having problems with the clutch and its been like this since i had it. Go to pull away in first and i either stall it, kangaroo it, or wheel spin it as seems to bite to high. Has anyone else experienced this or is it another characteristic of the car.
Thought at first it was my driving but Jo has drove it and my family have drove it and they have all stalled it and said its not right. In fact my mum used my car yesterday as i flattened her battery on her car and she stalled it twice just getting it off the drive she brought it back and said she hated it take it to Ford ASAP. She works for a Ford dealer as a driver and drives ST's alot and said mine is worse she has drove what are peoples views on here about it?

the ST cluth seem to be very different from other cars and I'm a bit like u sometime want to do a F1 style start but car almost stall then move! otherwise its fine sometime do stole but really don't no why! Few years back the VW sharan 1.8T was the same either wheel spin start or u stall! but may be u should take it to ford but they probably going to say there nothing wrong with it!

My clutch is a little harsh too. I find that I either judder away in 1st or give it some beans and spin the wheels looking like a prat.

I blame it on the lack of traction control rather than my inability to drive

Got mine on friday and not experienced anything like that, maybe there was a fault and they have sorted it on the newer models

Glad you said that i pulled away other night from work said by to work mates pulled away and then spun the wheels never meant to looked an idiot known as the boy racer now but on other hand had loads of lads and girls checking car out about 2 weeks ago whilst sat in traffic, went to pull away slowly cuz of the traffic and stalled it they was all laughing at me so started her up again and then the opposite spun the wheels. Love the car but hate the clutch

I don't know if it's an oddity with the clutch or the engine management, but it is a bit strange. The clutch on ours (a brand-new 07) bites fairly low and occasionally catches me out by almost stalling the engine. More gas sorts it out. I've never spun the wheels though Not yet anyway!
Had my older brother in the car today. He drives a C2 VTS and he reckons the ST 'feels beefy'.

The clutch in mine isn't high, but it is fairly easy to stall like Andy says!

The clutch is very different from most... you need to be exact with your clutch control of those things happen like Matt said.

The focus clutch is very easy as it's quite a bit longer and easier to control.

I noticed this straight away when I drove the about the clutch... just be gentle with it and you'll find the exact point that it's smooth eventually.

Scotty, You're absolutly right; I don't have an issue with my clutch as it is part of the car and I love it. Fact is that it's probably less than 1 in every 100 clutch operations that involve a near stall or wheel spin and its more than likely me not paying attention.... still, you always remember the bad things!

I might be wrong, but it is hydraulic control, not cable?

There has to be a reason your car and Jo's behave so differently. The fact that MichaelST1 had the same problem suggests there's something odd about a small proportion of the STs out there. I don't believe it's just the drivers.
