What's the recommendations for running in an ST?

Maximum revs etc and for how many miles?

Advice/ opinions please.

i am gonna follow the way i ran in this tdci.

let the engine get his temperature and just drive it pedal to the metal.

got 5 years of warranty on mine, so i actually dont care if it blows up but always let your engine go to its working temperature.

I asked my friend's opinion and he said not to take it over 4000 revs for the first 1000 miles. That means I'll be driving like a grandmother the number of miles I do each year! (8000 if I'm lucky)

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the opinions. Taking it reaonably steady for the first 1000 miles ties in with what I thought. That should take about 2 1/2 weeks with the mileage I do. Can't wait, bring on March 3rd

After 1000 miles dont just kill it straight off... the car wont feel loose until 5000+

I had heard that they take 5000 - 8000 miles to be really loose. 5K should only take me about 3 months

I don't know about you guys but I'm finding it very difficult to keep the revs down.

So running it in is proving V. difficult, if at all!!

As long as the cars oil is up to temp, oil not water.Give it all it,s got .We are talking 21st century manufacturing techniques not 1950s rubbish, theres nothing to bed in except the rings and they work best under pressure. And it,s all under warranty.I work with powerboats how do we test the add fuel, and oil warm it up and give it full wack for 20min if anything is going to break it,ll do it there and then, not faffing around for 3 months never getting the engine fully warm and oiling everything up,The engine dosn,t work between 5 and 7000rpm for nothing .You don,t see Schumacher keeping his revs down.

You are right about about the fact that if anything is going to break it is likely to do it early on, but I disagree with the 21st century manufacturing techniques. As I said in the other thread the possibilty for manufacturing to high tolerances is there but it isn't done because of cost and tooling time (which means cost again). Running an engine in will reap big rewards later in life. And there is a lot more to run in than just rings.

As for Schumacher, you're right I don't see him keeping his revs down, but I do see him getting a new engine every other race.

Yeah I guess he does get a new one and he needs one right now.Anyway my ford dealer said about running in "in 1st and 2nd keep it under 4000rpm for 500KM ."
Seems pretty straight foreward.I would change the oil/filter at this point as well.Have a good look at the oil it,ll have some metal, but if it seems excessive get it analised.

And indeed Shumi's engine would have been fully run-in on the dyno before it gets anywhere near the car, and thats with F1 tolerances.............
