I took a trip to wakefield today to visit pumaspeed for some new bits for my ST.
Came away with a miltek flexi pipe and k&n 57i for £200. Prior to buying these parts i was taken for a spin in the demo ST150 with Tony. The car is wicked, he has a miltek 4-2-1 mani, de-cat and full system. K&N Induction kit i believe too.
It is lowered on weitec coilovers and has the 300mm brake kit with mintex extreme pads.. The handling was excellent but the car had 18 inch white alloys taken from an FRS and sprayed obviously. The problem with these was that they did catch the arches due to the size. The car was very responsive and really pulled like a train after 4.5k revs. the best bit though was probably the 300mm brakes they were outstanding, well worth it! Anyway cheers Tony!

Will put the flexi on tomorrow Jimmy, will wait until next week to fit the 57i cos it goes in for a courtesy check on tuesday and dont want them to question a k&n under the bonnet

No mate, im near Chesterfield in Derbyshire - but I used to live in Morley, not that far from Pumaspeed so I know Wakefield pretty well (only took me an hour to get there).

Let me know what you think of the flexi.. i'm actually really impressed its made such a nice difference to the car. The guy at Pumaspeed was like "whats next....".. that place is so tempting! hehe.

Will definately use again, didn't even charge me full quoted fitting as he did it quicker... top stuff

So i fitted my flexi and k&n today Cron! got local garage to fit flexi as it looked a pain so i only got charged £5, well worth it. then i fitted the k&n myself, took 20 mins max, i got some of those hose clip pliers though which reduced the time to remove old bits by a lot. Anyhow, there is a strange power cut off in 2nd gear at around 5700rpm only for a moment but it feels weird. Other than that the engine appears to rev more freely after 4k revs and feels a little more responsive! I'll have to see how it goes.
Has anybody else had any unusual effects after fitting induction kits, if so please share your experiences!

hum, not noticed a power cut off with either my green OR k&n57i mate mine revs all the way up. i'd give Pumaspeed a quick phone call and see what they say. See if its there tomorrow.

Could be the ECU trying to get used to the new air flow ratio??

Budden... have you got just the flexi fitted to your standard exhaust? If so do you really think it made much difference?

Trouble is, it isn't possible to tell if the flexi is causing it or the K&N. Pity you didn't do as you first intended, Budden, and fit the flexi this week and the filter next week.

Like B and bb I'd like to know if the flexi makes a difference. Hmmm, If it's so easy to make and fit a larger diameter flexi, I wonder why Ford fitted one with a restriction. I'd have thought they'd want as much power as possible from the exhaust layout they used. Could it be something to do with the tuning? Maybe a bit of back pressure is needed with the standard ECU or cams or something?

Lplus- They have restricted the air flow to reduce the BHP so it is more insurance friendly for the younger drivers!.

Possibly the ECU needs time to adjust itself,either give it a blast down the motorway or disconnect the ECU for 1/2hour it will then adjust itself to your new mods (is your car stock or do you have dreamscience as the d/s may not be tuned for your new mods)just a thought
