Simply that when the XR name was dropped here, because it had become insurance unfriendly, they carried on using it on the sportier Fords in Australia rather than Si etc. and they've carried on using the XR name through to the current models because its a strong brand there.

Hi Guys
I'm Rob and I live in Brisbane, Australia, I have just signed up to your great site and have just bought a new XR4 (Fiesta ST) in Colorado Red with OTT stripes.

They have only been released here in about the last 6 months or so, dont see too many others on the road, Ford Australia are only importing 40 a month for the whole of Australia!, that way ensuring some relative exclusivity to the vehicle itself.

The reason the ST is called XR4 in Oz is simply a marketing ploy to follow suit with the other "sporting cars" in the Ford stable here in Oz, the Focus ST is called an XR5 over here and then there are the big brothers the XR6 and XR8 Falcons (the 6 and 8 denoting number of cylinders).

Does this mean that instead of `ST` written on the steering wheel, sewn on the seats and badge on the back, it says `XR4` ???? Must see a pic of that!
