Just a quick question, when you fellow st owners try to open your boot with the button on the dash can you open it with the engine on? Mine only seems to open when the engines off and it can be slightly annoying at times!

Thanks guys

Chris

i would have thought that would be a safety feature, wouldn't want it popping open accidentally while you are driving

but i can see how it would be annoying, should really be a release on the actual boot Ii think.

Yeh the boot release will only work when the engine is off and the doors unlocked (I found this out because I usually lock myself in my car *heh*). I think its definitly a safety feature. I LOVE my boot button in my car (& key fob!)! Has anyone else noticed that to open it with the fob, you have to press the button twice?

Yeah I thought it might be a safety feature, its just annoying when i'm trying to pick up my brother outside his school at 3:15 in the middle of the road because all the mums are picking up their little darlings in massive 4x4's which take up all the parking spaces! There, rant over!

Yes PinkRise I noticed that with my st too, I thought it was just me not doing it properly to start with!

*urgh* Chelsea tractors ... I HATE them... One anorexic mother and her tiny lone child in a gigantic vehicle. So many of them drive like they own the roads... One drove AT me because it was her right of way and I wasnt going to make her stop so I had to swerve to the kerb, hit it, heard a loud bang and my tyre was as flat as a pancake (luckily this was in my old Fiesta). I'm not being funny but I walked to my primary school every day unless it was too wet or rainy and it took a good 10 mins! At secondary school I got a combination of trains & buses!

Lord... I'm turning into my parents... "In my day...." *shakes fist angrily*

The interesting thing with the boot release is that I'm sure it says in the manual that the release will only work at speeds below 4mph However, as has already been said it only works with the engine off and the doors unlocked.

My wife's 1995 1.6Si boot release also only works when the engine is off, so it looks like that's normal for Ford.

The boot release on the key does need a double press. I think this is to stop you opening it by accident. It was exactly the same on a Modeo I had 3 years ago.

I've got my central locking set so that on one press of the the unlock button it only opens the drivers door, needs 2 presses to open both. Most of the time there is only me in the car so I prefer it this way.

I have owned nearly 20 brand new fords during my 15 years of employment with the company and on 99% of them the boot release will open with the engine running but the handbreak needs to be applied.
This was the case with my last car which was a 1.8 focus ghia 2004 model and and the 2 mondeos 2 fiestas i have owned in the last few years.
I think the only other car apart from the ST which had to have the engine shut off was my probe which was USA built.

I have got a mark 6 fiesta silver at the moment (getting my ST on Sat though), the boot release works with the engine running below a certain speed and if the doors are not locked. My mark 6 fiesta zetec was the same. Thought the ST would be too?
