When I pull away in first gear then change in to 2nd I hear a small knock as I take my foot off the clutch, but then from 2nd to third, nothing. If I change gear really slow it doesnt happen, but when you drive normally it does. It seems as if it's when you take your foot off the clutch fast?? it could be just the way I drive!!
The cars only done 1200 miles so could it be everything still wearing in, I just hate strange sounds and wondered if anyone else had it too??

Thanks

I've noticed there's always a bit of a thump when I let the clutch up, just before the drive takes up. I can avoid it by being *very* gentle with the clutch pedal, but normally that's not really possible. I've always assumed this was normal ST behaviour due to the bigger-than-normal clutch.

That sounds the same problem as me! Well at least im not the only one then, it could be totally normal, but with it being a new car I guess im a bit paranoid.

Got that sort of thing too. I showed the dealer tech man at the last service and apparently he tried two others that day only to find they did the same thing. It's driveline shunt on mine, though whether due to harder engine mounts, slacker tolerances, heavy duty clutch or whatever, I don't know.

I Have the same fault, that might be what makes it hard to get a smooth change when driving steady. I dont notice it if I am hammering it through the gears only when taking it steady.

Does anyone else have a problem when changing into reverse?

My driving instructor had a Zetec S and more often than not you'd struggle getting it in reverse first time round, he said it's a widespread problem with all fiestas but I can't remember his reasoning for why? Is this true?

I have it in all forward gears and sounds more of a metalic clink when engaging the clutch.

Yeh this is a common occurance in ST's and a lot of ford cars actually. It's just where the gearbox is not very sound proof. I mean i sometimes hear it in any gear, it just depends on how smooth my clutch control is. I wouldn't worry too much unless it won't actually go into gear. Turn the radio up
