Afternoon,

It is my understanding that in first gear there is an anti-stall feature ? Managed to stall in reverse but never in first, even when I lift the clutch without any acceleration it plods along.

Correct me if I am wrong!

Chris

Yes ST does have anti-stall, it's all built in with the drive-by-wire accelerator.

To really notice it, try rolling slowly down a hill without any gas! You will feel (and see rev counter bounce) the engine rev/dip/rev/dip....

Makes you look like a dumpling in queing traffic, just edging forward going down hill.

Still even with it you can still stall the engine!!

I remember when I first test drove an ST I wheel spun straight away lol, my old car needed a lot of revs to get going, luckily the dealer wasn’t to bothered

Remember taking my car for it's first spin with the dealer sitting nervously next to me. Found it quite difficult to drive. Obviously now after 9 months it's second nature.

best way to stop this, new tyres, better clutch control, less accerleration on pull off because wheel spinning actually slows u down. Sit it on about 3nhalf revs or 4 and just hit biting point and u get best pull away. And buy a quaife and that will stop it all together if u got a spare £900

Cripes, i've been sitting on TWO! Seemed the best way of not having the "look at that racing toss pot" looks from the other cars

The quaife unit wont stop wheel spin when accelerating.... the power has to go somewhere. It will lessen the wheelspin in conering or pulling off from stand still whilst turning the wheel (like onto a road) but not in a sraight line.

did already start at 3000 RPM and have tyre smoke everywhere so not sure that the best way to do a quick start!

I don't think so Steve. The Quaife ATB works very much like a Torsen differential. The only circumstance where it does not work is when one wheel is totally free (i.e. in the air) but as long as both wheels are able to transmit torque then torque is biased automatically between the two. It will actually work mostly in a straight line. Of course every system has its limitations and in extreme situation, both driven wheels will begin to loose traction and spin but compared to a standard "open" diff the improvement will be phenomenal.

The Quaife ATB makes a massive difference steve, ive seen a couple installed on other cars. It stops a hell of a lot of wheel spinning and gives so much more traction. Like nick said, it's a phenomenal difference, just costs a few.
