My tappets seem a bit noisy, maybe since having new cam shafts?

Are they self adjusting on the Duratec engine or do they need adjustment at service intervals?

No they are what we call hydraulic, They adjust themselves. You checked your oil level?

I thought they might be. Had a new oil change by my dealer last week. Think the level is ok when i checked on it couple of days after. I think it maybe the new cams running at lower revs, unless anythings been damaged.

Same dealer did the conversion, took it back week after to have mini service. They checked everything over again. Might just be me with the window down listening to my exhaust, now i can hear things i didn't notice before.

Early mondeo and escorts had them, I think up to 1997-8.

Spot on.

The followers are matched to the cam to within a Gnat's nut of tolerance by lasers on the production line.

As you've changed your cams they are no longer matching as they only change the cams not the followers.

If they are overly noisey you can complain and they should change them.

I thought the early Zetec-E's had hydraulic tappets ??
