There could be another reason for the 'ticking' at start up......
The duratec engine is 'timed' by a chain rarther than a belt, the chain runs inside the engine and is tensioned by oil pressure, on initial start up the engine oil is thick and may take a second or two before it reaches the required pressure to enter the tensioner valves, meaning the chain is a little slack and may rattle a little, this is why regular oil changes are so important on our cars!
Lack of oil maintenance will result in premature chain and tensioner wear and may even damage the engine!
If the ticking noise does not dissapear as the engine warms I would suggest checking oil level (when cold) and mayb an oil and filter change would help....
Hope this helps
