does anyone know how long the races will be in career mode? Surely not full on GP style are they with 70 odd laps?

The manual says
The shortest default race distance within Career Mode is 20% of the total race distance; alternatively the race distance can be set between 10% and 100% of the real world race length, the number of laps varying depending upon the length of the circuit selected.
