okay, tried some deliberate slow changes today, down a gear, clutch to floor for a second or so before changing or revving, nothing happens other than the revs start to drop, the car is sensing this and would drop to idle, can also sense power dropping, very much like when you reverse you will feel a high loss of power unless you really rev it hard which you don't need to as engine knows this and will cut down to only what is required.
When changing down gear, you should try to do swift changes and come off the clutch quickly do not ride it, racing changes tend to be smooth and encourage you to make a fast change, keeps the revs up making for a smooth bite release and makes some nice tunes/pops.........
Practice them.
hope that helps.
