not above usually just around, if you have it right in the corner it should be getting air from the slam panel where the original factory ducts were and also from underneath from your feed, would think just needs something dividing it from the engine. I've often wondered whether the feed pipe should also be heat protected with some anti reflect heat wrap although plenty of air under the car but surely overall must be pretty hot under the hood.
