Hi Guys, I've got a few questions about the Alarm on the ST, i hope someone can help!

I woke up in the middle of the night Friday because there was an alarm going off outside my boyfriends house, the alarm stopped so i didnt think it could be mine! Then when I went out to my car on saturday to find that some idiot had knocked the passenger side wing mirror off my car - it was hanging on by the wires !

Firstly, i dont know if the alarm was definately mine, does the alarm stop after a certain period of time if you dont switch it off if so how long the alarm go off for before is stops, and should there be any indication that the alarm has gone off?

And would the alarm go off from someone knocking the wing mirror off or would it be that someone was trying to get into the car? I am now worried about leaving her outside my boyfiends house in case someone was trying to steal her, i keep her in the garage at my house so i dont need to worry about her at home.

Also, what kind of cost am i looking at for a replacement, i dont fancy losing my no claims!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Laura

I had mine kicked off aswell, if the wires are still attached that is a bonus.

Don't bother claiming off insurance - it cost me £35.00 and was done in 1hr.

Most you probably pay for something like this is about £60, so dont worry too much! The inconvenience is a bummer though - mindless twats.

I have a garage now so don't have that sort of thing to worry about.

yeh definately dont go through insurance for a set of mirrors, the alarm may auto matically turn itself off, alot of alarms have a timer on them, think the st one is 2minutes and if your wing mirror was hanging off im sure your alarm should have detected it. Im buying a new set of mirrors for mine in a few weeks if u havent got yours sorted by then. Just take it to local ford garage and they will order you some.

as far as i know, the alarm wouldnt go of even if u had somone tow it away picking it up etc etc, theres sensors inside the car, to set the alarm they would have to actually get in the st unless u have upgraded ur alarm? to a anti tilt/shock alarm ect

Thanks for all of your replies, I'm hoping I wont have to worry about it now as I have a garage to keep her in wherever I'm staying.

I just have to have the mirror fixed, I had someone have a look at it and the electrics are all still working, the mirror part and colour coded part are both in-tact so i'm hoping to get away with just replacing the broken plastic !

Every scrap yard I have contacted are asking £50-£80, which is not much different from what Ford are quoting, weird!

the alarm is s**t anyways. i think it has this anti nuisance thing which turns it off after a while so as no to annoy the neighbours. lets the burgulars ranask your car in peace tho....i think if the alarms been going off the hazards should still be flashing, or in my cars case, they don't work at all!

Alarms in general are pretty rubbish anyway to be honest.

Back when they were first introduced, as soon as anyone heard one heads turned, people came running - there was intrest in it and why it was going off.

Then people got bored of hearing them and all that happens these days is people "tut" and say "oh shut up" and ignore them. In workplaces when an alarm goes off people just sit and wonder who it was and go about their work moaning about the "bloody noise".

All they're good for these days is bringing the price of insurance down really.

over here insurance don't care about alarm anymore so if u have one or not it wont change the price of ur insurance! they think that immoboliser are good enought to stop someone stealing ur car!and like james say no one take car of them now cos so many go without any reason!
