I co-bought this car last year, it was cracking fun and louder than hell, but needing a little bit of work doing to it (suspension setup, carbs re-jetting and new pads/discs/tyres). The chap I bought it with and I decided to sell it after we got our motorbike licenses in August last year, and because it meant my Cosworth was having to sit outside which after it's bare metal re-spray was not acceptable to me.

Having now sold the cosworth (something I wasn't expecting to do) I now bitterly regret selling the Westie.

Maybe I'll do the motorbike powered one I've always dreamed about, could be an interesting project to writeup for the site?

Dynod at 190bhp at the Fly, and weighing around 400kg (I can't remember exactly off hand) it was fecking rapid! What with peaky cams and Twin 45 Webbers (I reckon twin 40's would've been better) it only cam on song at about 5k and from then on it was mental! Driving down the backroads one dark evening I over-ran the engine through some bends and the flames out the exhaust lit up the crountryside - a great feeling I can tell you.

The more I sit here the more I definitely want another. Awesome.

C20XE (2.0l 16v from Astra & Cavalier GTE/GSi with a Coscast head). SBD Developments had breathed over the engine, but the real nice thing was the Quaife straightcut gearbox.

They have the Ford Duratec lump in them now-a-days, right?

You can do, you have quite a choice. Zetec 1.6/1.8 (costs around 2k), 2.0 Duratec 190bhp (costs 6k though), Fireblade/Blackbird/Busa motorbike engines. I'm thinking of doing a Megablade.

I want the VTEC in a Lotus Elise, I suspect that a Westfield would have a bit of trouble putting the power down - but then having said that a lot of people put the YB Cosworth lump tuned to 330bhp in it and that has to be lively!!

I seem to recall the new Radical uses the Honda unit.

The Elise is now available with the Toyota VVT engine, which was awful in the Toyotas but apparently damn fine in the Elise!
