Apologies if I'm using the wrong words but does anyone know if its possible to buy red calipers or shoes or whatever they are. Any idea how much they might cost, where you could get them from or how easy to fit.

I'm getting a black st and with the alloys I think the red brake things would look really cool. Is this feasible or practical?

I think you can have your callipers (you were right )taken off and painted whatever colour you want.

Can you not get covers to go over them as I wouldn't want to paint them. I've seen those shiny red plastic ones on porsches but not sure if this is the fabric of the brake or just simply a cover.

I don't think you can get covers either, you'd normally have to paint the calipers. I'm considering doing this, you can buy paint from Halfords and DIY it without too much difficulty.

Does the paint look crap or is it gloss?

How much roughly does anyone think the actual red calipers would cost then.

Its not gloss as such, but it looks good.

I've got no idea where you'd get red calipers from (Ford?), but most places would probably just paint the original ones anyway.

Cheers bud. I'll do some research.

How much is the paint and is it a reasonably simple thing to do?

Yeah I've looked on the web and you can getting painting sets with a gloss finish and durable to protect the parts etc but they need about 12 hours to dry. Looks ok but I can't seem to find ones that you could buy already done but I guess with so many different calipers for different cars that this isn't surprising. I guess if a garage could fit them they could prob part exchange with your old calipers when they took them off.

They look quite good though. Thinking that with black car and the red of the logo and interior (of mine) that a flash of red through the alloys might look quite good. Just a case of whether the effort is worth the reward.

Ah, that's true, if you can powder coat wheels them I'm sure you can do the calipers and you'll get a more authentic look. Will probably cost a few quid though but local places that do stuff like wheel refurbishment should be able to quote you.

As for the paint, you can normally get it for about £20 which should be enough to do all four.

Yeah I just found a couple of others if anyone interested.

The first one seems a good place to buy in the UK, the second interesting as about the application and the final another place to buy but from abroad I think.

That's not a bad price at Pumabuild. Would look better than painted ones too. I'm sorely tempted, only problem is which colour to go for? I think red would look best on my red car.

Yeah those puma build ones don't look bad and the price seems fair, trouble for me is them being in the midlands. I can't really drive my car up there and leave it for three days and I'm not going to take them off my car and send them up, shame. I might contact them and see if they know of anyone down in london that might do them. What colour is your car parksey.

Where are you getting yours done pink rinse, any chance of some photos and a review afterwards to let us know what you think of them as I know you live closer to me and it could be an option.

I might just get some of the paint and DIY it. I use my car pretty much every day for work and stuff so couldn't really do without it for that long.

That said, I could try driving it without the brakes for 3 days...

Yes, sorry what a blind, brain dead retard, I obviously didn't read enough. I will be using my car for commuting as well so may have to go the DIY route. Interested in seeing what Pinkrinse's experiences are like though.

Waiting for the car to arrive and I'm already totalling up spending more money on calipers and mats! pride myself on trying to saving the last penny in the purchase price but will then spend more making it just right. I've got a real hard on for getting these calipers painted red, to the point of wanting to do it within a month of getting the car. I just think it will look great. Have to be a sunny day though as I don't have a garage.

Hey spoon! I'm getting mine done near Ladywell!! *lol* Couldnt be a bit further away could it?? As I drive into Brixton every so often (to do with work) I drive past this wheel & tyre place so I popped in and after some puppy dog eyes (they started off saying they couldnt fit me in this week *heh*) they're doing it Friday morning. Gotta drop her in at 9am (*cry*) and apparently she'll be ready about 3-4 hours later. I'll post pics and a review (with the company's details) when I get her back.

Managed to spot a black ST with white side stripes in a road just down from the tyre place *heh* I'm getting good at this!!

Hey Pink how did you know to ask in there. Do they then take all the calipers off, paint them and put them back on. Do you provide the paint? as it seems a lot of work for just £35. The paint links that I posted further up talked about the paint taking about 12 hours to properly dry, will they be ready then in 3-4 hours. sorry to ask so many questions.

I thought to ask them because you could see they sold a ton of alloys and had a lot of nice looking modified cars in there being worked on *lol* He is taking the wheels off but not the calipers...

Hmmm... any opinions would be appreciated by those of you out there "in the know" about these things... It sounded bloody cheap when I went in and I even rang back to check it was £35 all together and not per caliper *lol* ... Hmmmm... I'm worried now

Sorry hun, didn't mean to cause anxiety. It's just the paint seems to cost £17.50-£20.00 on it's own but maybe it's a regular and easy job for them and thats why it's so cheap. Just check that what temp the paint is resistant to. The two ones above were 900-950F. I'm sure they'll be fine.

I'd love to do but I think it could take an age and be a real phaff taking off the wheels one by one, masking up and then handpainting, waiting for it to dry and everything else. Still want it done and still think it will look great though.

What do you guys think about red calipers on a blue car? I'm undecided but think I will probably paint them either blue or red in the near future.

Hi chris. im thinking bout getting a blue .want to get some brembos for it . reckon the red looks well cool, plus its the traditional colour for them!!
Sorry to go off subject, but chris are you happy with ur choice to put side stripes on. i can't decide whether to get them or not??

I'm very happy with my choice alex!

I couldn't decide to start with but I thought that it would make it look even more different from a normal fiesta, I'm so glad I did. Here's another picture of it:

Yeah those brembos look very cool but I think the brakes are excellent as they are and a lick of red paint should really set them out!

**Note to Hugh, look I've finally figured out how to resize images properly! **

Red calipers on a blue car would look cool, as they do/would on silver cars.

As for yours PinkRinse, I think it'll be a good job, although I would expect the calipers to be taken off for them to do it. Maybe that's where you'd spend more money in getting it done elsewhere? And those Pumabuild ones are only like double the price as they are powder-coated ones rather than painted.

I say go for it!

Ok! I plumped for gold! I like em but I have a confession tho because it is done with Hammerite (hence the cheapness I assume *lol*) but I havent got A) the time or B) the money to get them done "properly".

Sorry for the duble post but I cannot edit my last entry now ... I have this question to ask:

Ermmmm... as most might have guessed I'm not a typical car modifying person so please excuse this question if its a bit dumb/obvious..

I had my calipers painted gold but now I've noticed my brake discs have turned bright gold too. Its obvious the paint has rubbed off... Is that supposed to happen? I only noticed it after I got home from FITP and went to use up my FITP film today *lol*

Oh dear pink, that's don't look too good. Hope it hasn't screwed up the discs too much or affected their braking ability.

Either that garage slapped it on and managed to get it on the disc or as the dude says it just hadn't dried in time, dripped onto the discs and then spread.

I feel for you, what with the chipped alloy and burnt ceiling you're certainly hitting you run of bad luck.

Pinky have you driven the car since you washed it and took the pick?
For some reason the discs on the new fords tend to get a gold/rusty covering on them after cleaning the alloys especially if you use an alloy wheel cleaner.
If you have not take it for a drive down the road and have another look at them when you get back the surface layer should have come off.

I would agree with phyzzo pinkrinse, looks like you have just washed your alloys and the discs have corroded slightly?? If this is the case they will soon polish off 1/2 a mile up the road.

Yeah I've seen that too Phyzzo. Its strange 'cause it appears in no time when your washing it but it goes very quickly after you brake.

I think yours looks more like the paint colour though Pink i'm afraid!

You can't really tell from the second photo, I can assure you that the discs on my 170 used to go a very similar colour if I used alloy wheel cleaner. You won't know for sure until Pinky gives us her reply!

Yeah I know, but mine tend to go a darker brown to that, although I haven't used alloy cleaner myself.
I hope your right though for Pink's sake!

Pink-If u had just washed the car maybe it was rust forming on the disks as this happens in a matter of minutes when they are hot!!
