Hi All..

Got a 56 plate blue ST, had it for a year now... 22K and still very plesed with it..

Seem to have developed a noise which sounds like a power steering pump.. Has anyone had any problems with this??

Start the card from cold, if you give it a bit of a thrashing I get a whirrring noice whenever I turn the wheel..

Just wondered if anyone has had anything similar??

The PAS pump does make a bit of noise but I know the pressure relief valve can be prone to give up so that may be the problem.
Get them to check it out and yes take the K&N off.

Mine always ahs a whirring noise if you thrash it from cold. Didn't know it was a problem...?

Dave, are you saying that it is a problem, or just that it could be?
Mine has done it from new.

Thats interesting .

When we were all at Silverstone and did the 0 - 60 i heard a noise from my steering after, obviously, giving it some.

The noise went soon after though.

It was a hot day, and my engine temp was norm.

No noises since, touch wood.

When you really boot the car, get it hot, the PAS makes a lot of noise afterwards. Especially if you're out on track & if you take a careful look at the reservoir you might even see some of the fluid having leaked out around the cap (its not the most secure thing). So noise after "giving it some" is perfectly normal. Noise all the time isnt.

my did make a whining sound everytime id boot it in first gear or on full lock. then last saturday it failed altogether and ford replaced my pump in ONE day!!!

now i have no sound what so ever, even if a floor it in first or put it on full lock!!

id get it checked tho coz my ST is only a couple of months old and this happened. the pump drained its self dry of fluid!!!!!

i did post it up in The Forecourt

The pump does make some noise yes.
And as Kev said it does get louder when it's hot.

It's only if it's excessivley loud that there may be a problem.
That's why I advised to get them to check it for you

Thanks all for the info...

Just spoke to ford and they are waiting for a part, they didn't say what but it should be ready for tonight...

They are also replacing a Oil seal near one of the cogs as I spotted a small leak, apparently they have had to take the cam belt off to get at it...

Will let you all know what the outcome with the noise was and if they have done anything about it..

I never put the foot down from cold but the same thing happens. If i take it past 4000rpm in first gear that's it, i've got to put up with that whinning noise for the rest of the drive. If i'm parked up for about 15-20 minutes and get back in the noise has gone (untill i floor it again) does my heed in

car was only about 6 months old, but once ford replaced it, it doesnt make even a slightest sound!!!! is so so much better, get it looked at if i was you, i was out side my home once mine went, could have been on the motorway or summin tho, was so lucky as the AA man said the wheels shouldnd be driven at all, not even rolled anywhere

Just to update you all,

Picked the car up from Ford last week and they had replaced the power steering pump.. Made a big difference, no more noice after giving a bit from cold and infact all the time.

Have however found 2 more problems, the back seat is not locking in to position, and getting a whirring noise in 5th gear on the motorway, mate who's a mechanic said the only thing he could think of would be gearbox, so hoping it isn't that but looks like another trip back to ford...
