Well i've had my new stereo installed. I went for the option of having them cut the plastic struts in the end rather than buy the sat nav dashboard, and i have to say they've done an awesome job, you'd be hard pushed to tell they've cut it! I was really impressed.

Anyway, just to confirm, front door speakers took 5x7s and the rear door speakers actually take a 6x8. I got alpines for the front and kenwoods for the rears. All speakers will need a speaker adapter as the screw holes are different.

For the head unit i went for an alpine 9812 4x60w mp3 player. You will also need the fascia plate adapter as well, and a wiring harness to fit to fords custom wiring, and an apadter for the steering whell remote. I have to say the head unit took a bit of setting up but now it sounds amazing, and with a dedicated sub channel its nice to be able to control the sub from the head unit and indepandantly from the speakers. Powering the 10" sub i just have a kenwood 250w amp, nothing too special i know but it sounds great and does the job

Anyway, some pics....

Now god knows why my car looks orange in this pic but i promise you its a lovely colorado red....

I had my local ice dealer fit everything, it took them a good 3-4 hours as the whole door panel needs to come off to fit the speakers, they said the front doors were ok but the rear doors were a bit of a pain in the arse :s

Anyway, i'm all happy now, and thanks nicky for helping me choose the head unit, it looks ace

*lol* Woah... either you've got one funky camera or your "red" ST has suffered major sun damage and turned orange

Thats the best thing about this set up, if i need to use the boot the sub just lifts out, and cos the sub cables have banana plugs they just pull right out, couldn't be easier.

As for the camera, weird isn't it. The 'i don't want the picture to turn out how it actually looks' function was clearly left on

Install looks good Chris, how does it sound?

I've said before that I reckon the standard setup is fine, but then I am always tempted to get some decent Alpine components up front with just some coaxials in the rear. Its normally only me in the car anyway, and I'm not a fan of the whole 6x9s on the parcel shelf thing, I think having them often spoils the setup, particularly if you've got a sub already, and you end up with too much bass.

Right, here is what the whole thing cost......

Bought from ice dealer
£22.99 for amp wiring
£9.99 for head unit wiring harness
£15.99 for facia adapter
£7.99 for the speaker adapters
£5.00 velcro and tubing

I got the the actual kit from various places online...
Alpine cda 9812rb £210.00
alpine 5x7s (for front doors) £54.99
kenwood 6x8s (for rear 'doors') £44.00

The sub and amp i already had from my old car.... (not overpowered but does the job)
10" 600w Kenwood sub ~£55
250w Kenwood amp (dont make it anymore) ~£70 i think!?
Sub box ~£45

So to fit all this the labour was £149 ~3-4hours

So in total thats around £700 pounds for the install. I guess thats quite a lot, and none of it is top end stuff, but it sounds great and i'm really happy with it.

parskey like i have said m8, i;m not gonna have a sub in the back, so 6x9's on a stealth shelf would do me just fine

thanks for that chris atleast it give me something to go by
