The engine warning light has come on on my car so I'm a bit worried. It came on on Christmas day and as there was knowhere open that I could take it to be looked at I decided to leave it for a couple of days to see if it rectified itself beacuse other than the fact that the light had come on, there seemed to be no other problems.
It was still on yesterday so I phoned all the local Ford garages to book the car in and the soonest any of them could fit me in was the 2nd Jan which is a bit useless to me as I will be using the car for a 200 mile round trip at the weekend so I phoned the AA istead, they came out yesterday and couldn't find any faults, they turned the light out and gave it a run, then tested it again and all was okay.
I went out to the car again today and after about 300 yards the light came on again so I'm a bit stuck as to what to do, I really need the car for the weekend and although the car isn't playing up at all I'm a bit reluctant to do use it that much with the light on.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions as to what it could be, and should I drive the car 200 miles or not? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

i would not risk driving 200 miles to be honest,i had this problem on my old st it was the exhaust oxygen meter at fault first time and second time i had the software re set as it came on again,i would get it booked in as soon as you can and try get a courtesy car aswell, thing is ford will put your st on the computer to find the fault and diagnose it.good luck.

If it's the No1 Hego that's gone (which it probably is) then I wouldn't risk a 200 mile journey in it as when the Hego has gone down the ECU doesn't know what's going into the cat and you could destroy the cat.
Make Ford give you a courtesy car to be safe.
Have you put some rubbish petrol in it lately?

Thanks for the advice guys, I've just been to a couple of garages, one of which I was going to have my service done at but I will now not be going back to. The other was really helpful, they put my car on the machine and it turns out there is something wrong with a sensor in the exhaust, they have ordered a new part for me and the mechanic said it would be okay to drive until the new part arrives which I am very happy about .

And dont let the AA turn the light off either. Ford will want to look at any codes that are showing.

and you shouldnt need a courtesy car as im told it wont take long for them to sort it providing its not damaged anything!
