Hey, just a few questions concerning the Ford service.

Does anyone know what it is that Ford check when they carry out a service.
Is it just run-of-the-mill stuff like brakes, oil/filter change etc, or do they do some more technical stuff?

Also, I'm pretty sure I'll have voided my warranty as I should have had a service in December (couldn't afford it) and will now have to have it in January instead (I've got another 12 months warranty left on the car). So I suppose my main question really is this - Is there any point having a Ford service if my warranty is voided, or should I save some money and take it elsewhere? (If Ford do specific technical checks on the car, I'll take it to them anyway).

Thanks a lot in advance!

Tbh, unless they wanted to be really picky I don't think the warranty will be void over it being a few weeks late getting serviced. Also, depending on how long you're planning on keeping the car might be worth it purely from the point of view of having the book stamped and being able to say it has a full service history.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, thanks Chris, I was thinking it might just be worth it for the stamp. Oh well, time to say goodbye to £120...(or however much it costs for a service these days!). Thanks again!

Ignore the fact Fiesta only goes up to 2001 and select DuratecHE 16v and you're away.

Well I've booked the ST in for its second service on Thursday at 8:30am and they said it would cost £195. Jeeze, a whole load of smackers gone there.

I get the impression the guys at the Ford garage will just look at the car for an hour while drinking tea and eating a Hobnob.

Why don't you shop around, that sounds really expensive.
Did you know that Rapid Fit do exactly the same service for half the price, they even go into the dealers service bays to use WDS and IDS.
The only downside is is that not all dealers have a Rapid Fit.
Labour charge at a dealer is about £60 PH whereas Rapid Fit is about £30 PH, and you still get the dealer stamp not Rapid Fit.
Second (2yr) service needs the brake fluid changing as well.

thats expensive and i would ring round i paid £150 for the wifes 1st service at clemo ford in october last year, yeah its labour charges at the end of the day that jack up the price of servicing and for what gets done its a rip off. oh and by the way make sure its not a spotty 18 year old apprentice who takes your st out for the road test and tears the arse out of your beloved st.

Afternoon,

Under EU block exemption, you can have you vehicle serviced anywhere you wish and providing it has been undertaken according with fords recommendations, they cannot void the warranty on any item whether is it related to the servicing or not.

If any failure occurs as a result of a manufacturing concern, it must be upheld.

Hope this helps.

Chris

I think it is Rapid Fit that do the work (the Ford garage is literally across the road from me, adjoined with Rapid Fit), so I'm assuming this is the Rapid Fit price.

I just get the impression that other car garages won't have the brake fluid required, power steering fluid, correct oil filters, etc. It sounds like a lot of hassle when I can just take it over the road and pay a bit extra.

I think what I'll do, (after reading all your replies) is phone a few garages on Wednesday and see what they can do in terms of servicing exactly what requires servicing.

iceman - Thanks for the concern about the spotty teenagers! I will be keeping a close eye on the garage just incase I hear tyres screaming down the road.

Thanks DAVE T ST and Tartanbloke, too. Much appreciated.

Well the car had the service today. I took it to Ford, and I'm glad that I did. Does anyone know how long Ford have offered this with their service...

I must say the car definitely runs better after having the valves and combustion chamber washed.
