right i had a powerflow cat back system fitted about 6 weeks ago and to honest its really starting to annoy me now. (pic in avatar)

its really loud inside the car but again annoying, mostly when driving in town and motorways even tho its not that bad on motorway if i level out the revs.

what i want is a pic of your backbox to see what size it is and prefably without the silencer and if you have a little video of the sound i would be greatful

thanks

Here's a picture of my car's backbox. I havent got the secondary box that the ST's original system has so at motorway speeds it does get very "boomy" but like you say if I'm careful on the throttle I can even it out a little.

The only video clips I have of it are of my car on a rolling road and the fan they used kinda gets in the way but you get an idea of what its like from the outside at least.

Can't you take it back and ask them to quieten it down a bit??

not without paying i would imagin, i may as well have a new backbox built.

i would like a militek but for £350 then £65 fitting f**k that which probably wont make performance difference to the one i have now

It's a shame you aren't happy with it.. Thing is the ST exhaust isn't the quietest to start with, I would expect nothing less than a noisy ride if I started modifying the exhaust, just turn up the radio

Mine is a longlife exhaust, same as powerflow. 2 ways you could fix this. First take and back and get the garage to change it. Secondly you could get some sound proofing and line the boot with it. Car will still be noisey but not as loud inside the car

Mine is very loud all the time, Just turn the music up

Why not try soundproofing the inside rear of your car first.

It's an easy job to undertake, albeit one that i havn't got round to do myself yet .

All thats involved is a trip to Halfords for the soundproofing stuff, or maybe even some old carpet.

1/ Remove the carpet in the boot and cover all over, around the spare and under it in the wheel well.

2/ Lift the rear seat up, which i didn't even know it did until we went on a meet and Scotty showed me . And again, cover the floor pan.

As i said, i havn't tried it myself yet, but i recon it would work a treat, and at really minimal cost.

Put it this way, have you ever got into a Fiesta Encore and shut the door.....CLANK!

Get into an LX etc, and just a nice thud.

What did Ford do to resolve the tinny clank, one piece of self adhereing sound deadening on the inner doorskin.

Ok just spent an hour covering the boot floor with carpet and it made no- difference what so ever. My only guess is that carpet will not do the trick and you will need proper sound deadening which is expensive.( also my car is very loud and boomy, did a run to the tip this morning and a full load of bin bags made very little difference to noise)
I reckon this stuff may work but its not difinante, http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=DYN10425

It may be worth taking you car back and see if they can pack the exhaust differentley.

Wheel well

Boot floor

Finished

EDIT: video of before run just to show noise problems

I have a anti slip fitted mat in my boot available from Ford, I asked for it when I ordered the car and they forgot to charge me for it, this may help a bit more, also get proper soundproofing, you can get thick stick on stuff too, the mat looks nice in the boot too.
