I have to agree with others that its not a good idea. Some young new drivers cant handle a car with a small engine let alone one like the ST. Cars like the ST need to be respected and to be honest I dont think alot the young teenagers will. Learning in an ST would make people want to own one more for there first car, its not a first car. Its a car that should be worked up to after a few years of driving experience.
But this is my opinion and I know not everyone is the same in the way they act and hopefully you can teach them to respect their car. You will know whats best, after all you are probably alot more knowledgable about driving than me.
I know alot of you wont agree with me but i just think that a car can be a leathal weapon if used inappropriatly.

Thanks all for your opinions!

Scotty, I think you misunderstood me from my earlier question, still never mind, I have the responses I need. As for insurance, £297.42p, I think is okay but could be better.

This is with my qualifications and fault free record of 23 years driving. to put you fully in the picture, I also deliver training to many sectors, I can assure you all, the 17 year old market for driver training and education is the smallest market sector.

I have no worries regards fuel costs, tax deductable and all. Replacement parts if damaged? Seriously...Do you think that a plumber or joiner would loss sleep if one of their tools were damaged?

I would not loss sleep if the car got damaged, I'd accept that as my responsibility and get it fixed. I would also feel I should compensate my client for puting them into a situation they were not ready to deal with.

I am surprised by the negative responses my question has got from a froum of ST lovers. Maybe it is just a bit of snobbery and you think that learners don't deserve to learn in such a car!

just my opinion. Thanks for yours!

It doesn't matter whether or not it is an ST, all cars, indeed all vehicles can be a lethal weapon in the wrong hands!

agree with u!any car can be a weapon what ever the power, u can own a slow car and drive stupidly and u can own a ST and driving sensibly and usally there more car accident in slow or old cars and rarely fast and new cars

I'll break down what you said so I can reply easier:

Scotty, I think you misunderstood me from my earlier question,

Your initial question was regarding if we thought it was a good idea to have an as a learner/driver training car?

We're not talking about a monkey wrench from B+Q here... we're talking a bash up the curb could cost £1000 to fix... and an alloy could quite easily be taken out by a hard hit which would be £150 + possible new tyre @ £100...

I think you have got the wrong end of the stick with the responses. We are all or lovers and of course we love to see people wanting to get an . We obviously have quite an extensive knowledge of the car and possible negatives it might have being under a learners control.

I think you have misjudged us if they think we are being snobs. I think you should understand that if you post something on a public forum you cannot expect to get a response back that you wanted, sometimes the response is not as you intended or possibly even negative.

I feel the comments put by myself and others are completely fair and honest... did you want us to put down that the is the best thing since sliced bread? You would most definitely have got this going onto a Vauxhall, Pug or Fiat site... when we all know they are not particularly great cars.

It seems you have already decided to get an and I wish you all the best of luck with it... please let us know how you get on and get some pics up if/when you get it

I'm not a snob and neither is anyone else one here! We just love our cars, like Scotty said. I had to work hard for many years to save up enough to buy an ST, so i'm certainly not a snob!

Hey all,

I am new to your boards. I thought I'd jump straight in and ask for your opinions folks.

I need the low down on the Fiesta ST. I am looking to purchase one brand new, where are the best prices to be found?

What are your real honest opinions of this car?

Hi i am new to the board too - I know a new car sounds fab but.....have you considered a used one just bought my first ST 10 months old 07 plate for £9,480 from Dagenham Ford Woodford Green with 4700 on the clock as good as new with the depreciation taken out of the cost of a new one!!! Just a thought!!!
Cheers

Hi Folks,

I thank you for your responses. I am considering this purchase as a business decision so I have to be certain I get it right. I am a driving instructor and I want to use a car that is attractive to the public.

Being a Fiesta takes it right to the top of the class right away. My concern being an ST model is that it may scare some people when they realise what this car is capable of!

Now that you know this, how would you advise me?

Cheers,

RH

I wouldn,t worry about teaching some to drive in an ST,here in Bristol there is a guy who teaches in a new corsa VXR.... his idea is to attract the youngsters because it,s the only chance they are going get to drive one cheaply and legally
this guy seems to have a fair bit of business because of it...go for it

i dont get why people are saying its a bad idea to learn in a st . when the new mini came out loads of schools had them to learn in and it attracted alot of people to learn in them . For damages to the car insurance would pay and the st isnt that fast that it is going to scare anyone or be any more dangerouse than any other car .

the only mini's i have seen being used as learner cars are the standard model. s**te cars. that model is in a lower class to the ST regarding performance.
